Then he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers and sisters at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have fallen asleep.
Then the Lord said to Moses, "You are about to die, and then these people will begin to prostitute themselves with the foreign gods of the land into which they are going. They will reject me and break my covenant that I have made with them.
And why do you not pardon my transgression, and take away my iniquity? For now I will lie down in the dust, and you will seek me diligently, but I will be gone."
Many of those who sleep in the dusty ground will awake -- some to everlasting life, and others to shame and everlasting abhorrence.
After he said this, he added, "Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep. But I am going there to awaken him."
For David, after he had served God's purpose in his own generation, died, was buried with his ancestors, and experienced decay,
so man lies down and does not rise; until the heavens are no more, they will not awake nor arise from their sleep.
When their appetites are all stirred up, I will set out a banquet for them. I will make them drunk so that they will pass out, they will fall asleep forever, they will never wake up," says the Lord.
Then he fell to his knees and cried out with a loud voice, "Lord, do not hold this sin against them!" When he had said this, he died.
Furthermore, those who have fallen asleep in Christ have also perished.
Listen, I will tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed --
For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, so also we believe that God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep as Christians. For we tell you this by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will surely not go ahead of those who have fallen asleep.

Furthermore, those who have fallen asleep in Christ have also perished.
For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, so also we believe that God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep as Christians.

Now if Christ is being preached as raised from the dead, how can some of you say there is no resurrection of the dead? Also, we are found to be false witnesses about God, because we have testified against God that he raised Christ from the dead, when in reality he did not raise him, if indeed the dead are not raised. For if the dead are not raised, then not even Christ has been raised. And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is useless; you are still in your sins. Furthermore, those who have fallen asleep in Christ have also perished. For if only in this life we have hope in Christ, we should be pitied more than anyone.
