And the passers-by kept hissing at Him, shaking their heads and saying, "You who would tear down the temple and build another in three days, save yourself! If you are really the Son of God, come down from the cross."

The soldiers also made sport of Him as they continued to come up and offer Him vinegar, and to say, "If you are the king of the Jews, save yourself!"

The high priests too made sport of Him to one another with the scribes, and kept saying, "He saved others but He cannot save Himself! Let the Christ, the king of Israel, come down now from the cross, so that we may see it and believe!" Even the men who were crucified with Him made sport of Him.

One day while He was teaching the people in the temple and preaching the good news, the high priests and the scribes, together with the elders, took a stand against Him, and said to Him, "Tell us what sort of authority you have for doing as you do, or who is it that gave you such authority?"
