Jehovah said: Tell your brother Aaron that he cannot go into the holy place whenever he wants to. If he goes up to the canopy and stands in front of the throne of mercy on the Ark, he will die. This is because I appear in the smoke above the throne of mercy.
Clouds, gloom and darkness are all around Him. Righteousness and judgment are the foundation of his throne.
But the people continued to stand at a distance. Only Moses went near the dark cloud where God was.
Solomon prayed: Jehovah, you have placed the sun in the sky, yet you have chosen to live in clouds and darkness.
He made the darkness his hiding place, his pavilion round about, the dark rain clouds his covering.
You have not come to a mountain that can be touched, to Mount Sinai with its blazing fire, the darkness and the gloom, the storm. You have not come to the blast of a trumpet, and the sound of a voice. When the people heard the voice, they begged not to hear another word.
