Again, however, pay very careful attention, lest you forget the things you have seen and disregard them for the rest of your life; instead teach them to your children and grandchildren. You stood before the Lord your God at Horeb and he said to me, "Assemble the people before me so that I can tell them my commands. Then they will learn to revere me all the days they live in the land, and they will instruct their children." Then the Lord spoke to you from the middle of the fire; you heard speech but you could not see anything -- only a voice was heard. And today the Lord has declared you to be his special people (as he already promised you) so you may keep all his commandments.
This is the man who was in the congregation in the wilderness with the angel who spoke to him at Mount Sinai, and with our ancestors, and he received living oracles to give to you.

The mountains tremble before him, the hills convulse; the earth is laid waste before him, the world and all its inhabitants are laid waste.

Then, when you heard the voice from the midst of the darkness while the mountain was ablaze, all your tribal leaders and elders approached me.
The mountains trembled before the Lord, the God of Sinai; before the Lord God of Israel.
If only you would tear apart the sky and come down! The mountains would tremble before you! As when fire ignites dry wood, or fire makes water boil, let your adversaries know who you are, and may the nations shake at your presence! When you performed awesome deeds that took us by surprise, you came down, and the mountains trembled before you.
The mountains will disintegrate beneath him, and the valleys will be split in two. The mountains will melt like wax in a fire, the rocks will slide down like water cascading down a steep slope.
