These are the terms of the covenant that the LORD commanded Moses to make with the Israelis in the land of Moab in addition to the covenant that he made with them in Horeb. When Moses went up on the mountain, the cloud covered it. The glory of the LORD settled on Mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it for six days. Then on the seventh day he called to Moses from within the cloud. To the Israelis the appearance of the glory of the LORD was like a consuming fire on top of the mountain. When Moses went up on the mountain, he went into the center of the cloud and was on the mountain for 40 days and 40 nights.
When Moses went up on the mountain, the cloud covered it. The glory of the LORD settled on Mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it for six days. Then on the seventh day he called to Moses from within the cloud. To the Israelis the appearance of the glory of the LORD was like a consuming fire on top of the mountain. When Moses went up on the mountain, he went into the center of the cloud and was on the mountain for 40 days and 40 nights.
Then Moses turned and went down the mountain with the two Tablets of the Testimony in his hand, tablets which were written on both sides. They were written on one side and the other. The tablets were the work of God and the writing was God's writing, inscribed on the tablets.
Be ready in the morning, and come up in the morning on Mount Sinai, where you are to present yourself to me there on the top of the mountain. No one is to come up with you, nor is anyone to be seen anywhere on the mountain. Also, the sheep and cattle are not to graze in front of that mountain." So Moses carved out two stone tablets like the first ones, got up early in the morning, and climbed Mount Sinai, just as the LORD had commanded him. He took with him the two stone tablets.
