And all the people saw the thunder and the lightning and the noise of the horn, and how the mountain smoked. And when the people saw it, they removed and stood afar off and said unto Moses, "Talk thou with us, and we will hear; but let not God talk with us, lest we die." And Moses said unto the people, "Fear not, for God is come to prove you, and that his fear may be among you that ye sin not."

And Moses brought the people out of the tents to meet with God, and they stood under the hill. And mount Sinai was altogether on a smoke: because the LORD descended down upon it in fire. And the smoke thereof ascended up, as it had been the smoke of a kiln, and all the mount was exceeding fearful. And the voice of the horn blew and waxed louder, and louder. Moses spake, and God answered him and that with a voice.
