So David and his six hundred men went to the Besor Valley, where some were left behind. David and four hundred men went in pursuit. Two hundred men who were too exhausted to cross the Besor Valley stayed behind.

Jehovah said: I will not withdraw punishment from Gaza for they transgressed many times. They captured all the people and delivered them to Edom. I will send a fire on the wall of Gaza. It will devour the palaces there.

Judah took Gaza with its territory, and Ashkelon with its territory as well as Ekron with its territory.

They camped on the land and destroyed the crops as far south as Gaza. They took all the sheep, cattle, and donkeys, and left nothing for the Israelites to live on.

They praised their god and said: Call Samson, and make him entertain us! They brought Samson out of the prison and they made him entertain them. They forced him to stand between the columns. Please, God, give me my strength just this one time. With this one blow I can get even with the Philistines for putting out my two eyes. Then Samson took hold of the two middle columns holding up the building. He put one hand on each column. He pushed against them. Samson shouted: Let me die with the Philistines! He pushed with all his might, and the building fell down on the five kings and everyone else. Samson killed more people at his death than he had killed during his life. His brothers and the rest of his family came to get his body. They took him back and buried him between Zorah and Eshtaol in the tomb of his father Manoah. He had been Israel's judge for twenty years.

God's angel said to Philip: Arise, and go toward the south the way that goes from Jerusalem unto Gaza through the desert. He went and an Ethiopian eunuch (government official), a man of great authority under Candace queen of the Ethiopians, who had the charge of all her treasure, and had come to Jerusalem to worship. The Spirit said to Philip: Go near, and climb on this chariot. Philip ran to him, heard him read the prophet Isaiah, and said: Do you understand what you are reading? How can I, the eunuch said: unless someone explains it to me? He invited Philip to come and sit with him. The Scripture he read was this: He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; and like a lamb dumb before his shearer so he did not open his mouth. In his humiliation his judgment was taken away. Who will declare his generation? For his life is taken from the earth. The eunuch asked Philip: Please tell me of whom is the prophet talking about, himself or someone else? Then Philip began at the same Scripture and told him the good news about Jesus. On their way, they came to a body of water and the eunuch said, See, here is water. What prevents me from getting baptized? Philip said: If you believe with all your heart, you may. He answered: I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He commanded the chariot to stop. They both went into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him. After they came out of the water God's Spirit took Philip away. The eunuch did not see him again. He continued his journey rejoicing.
