and all the land of Judea, and all the people of Jerusalem, kept going out to him, and were baptized by him in the Jordan river, confessing their sins.

And while the people were in expectation, and all men were debating in their hearts about John,

Then Jerusalem began to go out to him, and all Judea, and the whole neighborhood of the Jordan, and were baptized by him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins.

And although he wished to kill John, he feared the people, for they considered John a prophet.

"For John came to you in the road of righteousness, and you did not give credence to him; but the tax-gatherers and the harlots gave credence to him. But you, although you saw this, did not even then change your minds and give credence to him.

On the other hand, if we say, 'From men'!" They were afraid, however, of the people, for every one held that John had been really a prophet.

So John used to say to the crowd of those who were going out to be baptized by him. "You breed of vipers, who has warned you to flee from the wrath to come?

"And if we say, 'From man,' all the people will stone us, for they were persuaded that John was a prophet."

Next day again, John was standing with two of his disciples. After gazing intently on Jesus as he walked about, he said, "Look! that is the Lamb of God!" The two disciples heard his exclamation, and they followed Jesus. read more.
Then Jesus turned and saw them following him, and said, "What do you want?" They replied, "Rabbi" (which may be translated 'Teacher'), "where are you staying?" He said to them, "Come, and you shall see." So they went and saw where he was staying, and spent that day with him. It was then about four o'clock in the afternoon. One of the two men who heard what John said and followed Jesus, was Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter.
