We are also men subject to like sufferings with you, preaching that you should turn from these vain [services] to the living God, who made heaven and earth, and the sea, and all things in them, who in past generations permitted all nations to walk in their own ways; although indeed he left not himself without a witness, doing good, giving rains from heaven and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness. And saying these things they with difficulty restrained the multitudes from sacrificing to them.
