Thematic Bible

And asking for a writing-tablet, he wrote, saying, His name is John. And they marvelled all. And immediately his mouth was opened, and his tongue loosed, and he spake, praising God. And fear came on all that dwelt round about them, and all these things were noised abroad, in all the hill-country of Judea. read more.
And all that heard them, laid them up in their hearts, saying, What manner of child shall this be? And the hand of the Lord was with him. And his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Ghost, and prophesied, saying, Blessed be the Lord God of Israel; for he hath visited and redeemed his people, And hath raised up an horn of salvation for us, in the house of his servant David: As he spake by the mouth of his holy prophets, who have been since the world began: That we should be saved from our enemies, and from the hand of all that hate us; To perform the mercy promised to our fathers, and to remember his holy covenant, The oath which he sware to our father Abraham, That he would grant us, being delivered out of the hand of our enemies, to serve him without fear, In holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of our life. And thou, child, shalt be a prophet of the Highest: for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord, to prepare his ways,

There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. The same came for a testimony, to testify of the light, that all thro' it might believe. He was not the light, but was sent to testify of the light. read more.
This was the true light, who lighteth every man that cometh into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made by him; yet the world knew him not. He came to his own, and his own received him not. But as many as received him, to them gave he privilege to become the sons of God, to them that believe in his name: Who were born, not of blood, nor by the will of the flesh, nor by the will of man, but of God. And the Word was made flesh, and tabernacled among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father) full of grace and truth. John testified of him and cried, saying, This is he of whom I said, He that cometh after me is preferred before me, for he was before me.

John answered and said, A man can receive nothing, unless it be given him from heaven. Ye yourselves bear me witness that I said, I am not the Christ, but I am sent before him.

Ye sent to John, and he bare testimony to the truth. But I receive not testimony from man; but these things I say, that ye may be saved. He was a burning and a shining light, and ye were willing for a season to rejoice in his light.
