It was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, one of the two having heard of John, and followed him. He first finds his own brother Simon, and says to him, We have found Messias, which is, being interpreted, Christ. And he brought him to Jesus. And Jesus having looked upon him, said, Thou art Simon son of Jona: thou shalt be called Cephas, which is, interpreted, Peter.

Nathanael says to him, Whence knowest thou me? Jesus answered and said to him, Before Philip called thee, being under the fig tree, I saw thee. Nathanael answers and says to him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art the King of Israel. Jesus answered and said to him, Because I said to thee, I saw thee under the fig tree, believest thou thou shalt see greater than these. And he says to him, Amen, amen, I say to you, From henceforth shall ye see heaven opened, and the messengers of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man.
