Ye chose not me, but I chose you, and I have set you, that ye might retire and bear fruit, and your fruit remain: that whatever ye ask the Father in my name, he might give you. These things I command you, that ye love one another. If the world hate you, know that it has hated me the first of you. If ye were of the world, the world had loved its own: and because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. Remember the word which I said to you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they expelled me, they will also expel you; if they kept my word, they will keep yours also. But all these will they do to you for my name, for they know not him having sent me. If I had not come and spoken to them, they had not sin and now they have no pretext for their sin. He hating me hates my Father also. If I did not the works in them which none other has done, they had not sin: and now have they also seen and hated also me and my Father. But that the word written in their law might be completed, That they hated me gratuitously.
