After these things there was a feast of the Jews; and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. Now there is in Jerusalem, by the sheep-gate, a pool, which is called, in Hebrew, Bethesda, having five porches. In these were lying a multitude of those who were sick, blind, lame, withered, [waiting for the moving of the waters: read more.
for an angel of the Lord went down at a certain period into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever, therefore, first, after the troubling of the water, stepped in, was healed of whatsoever disease he had]. And a certain man was there, who had been for thirty-eight years in his infirmity. Jesus, seeing this man lying, and knowing that already for a long time he had been thus, saith to him, "Do you wish to be made well?" The sick man answered Him, "Sir, I have no one, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool; but, while I am coming, another goes down before me!" Jesus saith to him, "Rise, take up your bed, and walk." And straightway the man became well, and took up his bed, and was walking. And it was the sabbath on that day. The Jews, therefore, said to him who had been cured, "It is the sabbath; it is not lawful for you to carry your bed." But he answered them, "He Who made me well, the Same said to me, 'Take up your bed and walk.' They asked him, "Who is the Man That said to you, 'Take up your bed, and walk?'" And he who was healed knew not Who it was; for Jesus withdrew, a multitude being in the place. Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple. And He said to him, "Behold, you have been made well; sin no more, lest something worse befall you." The man went away, and told the Jews that it was Jesus who made him well. And, on this account, the Jews were persecuting Jesus, because He was doing these things on the sabbath.

Let not sin, therefore, reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey its desires; neither present your members to sin as instruments of unrighteousness; but present yourselves to God, as alive from the dead, and your members to God as instruments of righteousness.

And they come again into Jerusalem. And, as He was walking about in the temple, the high priests and the scribes and the elders come to Him; and said to Him, "By what authority art Thou doing these things! Or who gave Thee this authority to do these things!" And Jesus said to them, "I will ask you one thing; and answer Me, and I will tell you by what authority I am doing these things. read more.
The immersion of John, was it from Heaven, or from men? Answer Me." And they reasoned with themselves, saying, "If we say, 'From Heaven,' He will say, 'Why then did ye not believe him!' But, should we say, 'From men,'"??hey feared the people; for all held John to be a prophet indeed. And, answering, they say to Jesus, "We do not know." And Jesus saith to them, "Neither do I tell you by what authority I am doing these things."

And Jesus, answering, said, while teaching in the temple, "How do the scribes say that the Christ is David's Son? David himself said in the Holy Spirit, 'The Lord said to my Lord, Sit on My right hand, until I put Thy enemies underneath Thy feet.' David himself calls Him Lord; and whence is He his Son?" And the great multitude heard Him gladly. read more.
And in His teaching He said, "Beware of the scribes, who wish to walk about in long robes and have salutations in the marketplaces, and the first seats in the synagogues, and the first places at the feasts; who devour widows' houses, and for a pretense make long prayers; these shall receive greater condemnation." And, haring taken a seat over against the treasury, He was beholding how the multitude cast money into the treasury; and many who were rich cast in much. And one poor widow, coming, cast in two mites, which is a farthing. And, calling to Him His disciples, He said to them, "Verily I say to you, this poor widow cast in more than all who are casting into the treasury; for they all did cast in out of their abundance; but she out of her want cast in all that she had??er whole living."

But, it being now the middle of the feast, Jesus went up into the temple, and was teaching. The Jews, therefore, were marveling, saying, "How knoweth This Man letters, having never learned!" Jesus, therefore, answered them, and said, "My teaching is not Mine, but His Who sent Me. read more.
If any one wills to do His will, he shall know of the teaching, whether it is of God, or whether I speak from Myself. He that speaks from himself seeks his own glory; but He Who seeketh the glory of Him Who sent Him the Same is true, and there is no unrighteousness in Him. Did not Moses give you the law? and not one of you does the law. Why are ye seeking to kill Me?" The multitude answered, "Thou hast a demon: who is seeking to kill you!" Jesus answered, and said to them, "I did one work, and ye all marvel because of this. Moses has given you circumcision (not that it is of Moses, but of the fathers); and on the sabbath ye circumcise a man. If a man receives circumcision on a sabbath, that the law of Moses be not broken, are ye angry with Me, because I made a whole man well on the sabbath? Judge not according to appearance, but judge righteous judgment." Some, therefore, of those of Jerusalem said, "Is not This He Whom they are seeking to kill? And, behold, He is speaking openly, and they say nothing to Him! Did the rulers ever truly know that This is the Christ? But as to This Man we know whence He is; but, when the Christ cometh, no one knows whence He is." Jesus, therefore, cried in the temple, teaching and saying, "Ye both know Me, and know whence I am; and I have not come of Myself; but He Who sent Me is true, Whom ye know not.

and Jesus was walking in the temple in Solomon's porch. The Jews, therefore, came round about Him, and said to Him, "How long dost Thou hold us in suspense? If Thou art the Christ, tell us plainly." But ye believe not, because ye are not of My sheep. My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; and I give to them eternal life; and they shall never perish, nor shall any one snatch them out of My hand. My Father, Who hath given them to Me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father's hand. I and the Father are One." The Jews took up stones again to stone Him. Jesus answered them, "Many good works did I show you from My Father; for which of those works do ye stone Me?" The Jews answered Him, "For a good work we stone Thee not, but for blasphemy, and because, Thou, being a Man, makest Thyself God!" Jesus answered them, "Has it not been written in your law, 'I said, ye are gods?' If He called them gods to whom the word of God came (and the Scripture cannot be broken), say ye of Him Whom the Father sanctified and sent into the world, Thou blasphemest, because I said, I am the Son of God? If I do not the works of My Father, believe Me not; but, if I do them, even though ye believe not Me, believe the works; that ye may know and understand that the Father is in Me, and I in the Father."
