At this, they turned on him in fury and said, "You are his disciple, but we are disciples of Moses! We know that God has spoken to Moses, but we do not know where this fellow comes from."

They asked him, "You were born a sinner and you are trying to instruct us?" And they threw him out.

I am baptizing you with water as evidence of repentance, but the one who is coming after me is stronger than I am, and I am not worthy to carry his sandals. It is he who will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.

This is how you can recognize God's Spirit: Every spirit who acknowledges that Jesus the Messiah has become human and remains so is from God. But every spirit who does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist. You have heard that he is coming, and now he is already in the world.

Yet many people, even some of the authorities, believed in him, but because of the Pharisees they did not admit it so they would not be thrown out of the synagogue. For they loved the praise of human beings more than the praise of God.

"Not everyone who keeps saying to me, "Lord, Lord,' will get into the kingdom from heaven, but only the person who keeps doing the will of my Father in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, "Lord, Lord, we prophesied in your name, drove out demons in your name, and performed many miracles in your name, didn't we?' Then I will tell them plainly, "I never knew you. Get away from me, you who practice evil!'"

"Therefore, everyone who acknowledges me before people I, too, will acknowledge before my Father in heaven. But whoever denies me before people I, too, will deny before my Father in heaven."

John told the truth about him when he cried out, "This is the person about whom I said, "The one who comes after me ranks higher than me, because he existed before me.'" We have all received one gracious gift after another from his abundance, because while the Law was given through Moses, grace and truth came through Jesus the Messiah. read more.
No one has ever seen God. The unique God, who is close to the Father's side, has revealed him.

His parents said this because they were afraid of the Jewish leaders, since the Jewish leaders had already agreed that anyone who acknowledged that Jesus was the Messiah would be thrown out of the synagogue. That's why his parents said, "He is of age. Ask him." The Jewish leaders summoned the man who had been blind a second time and told him, "Give glory to God! We know that this man is a sinner." read more.
But he responded, "I don't know whether he is a sinner or not. The one thing I do know is that I used to be blind and now I can see!" Then they asked him, "What did he do to you? How did he heal your eyes?" He answered them, "I've already told you, but you didn't listen. Why do you want to hear it again? You don't want to become his disciples, too, do you?" At this, they turned on him in fury and said, "You are his disciple, but we are disciples of Moses! We know that God has spoken to Moses, but we do not know where this fellow comes from." The man answered them, "This is an amazing thing! You don't know where he comes from, yet he healed my eyes. We know that God doesn't listen to sinners, but he does listen to anyone who worships him and does his will. Ever since creation it has never been heard that anyone healed the eyes of a man who was born blind. If this man were not from God, he couldn't do anything like that." They asked him, "You were born a sinner and you are trying to instruct us?" And they threw him out. Jesus heard that they had thrown him out. So when he found him, he asked him, "Do you believe in the Son of Man?" He answered, "And who is he, sir? Tell me, so that I may believe in him." Jesus told him, "You have seen him. He is the person who is talking with you." He said, "Lord, I do believe," and worshipped him.

Then Philip began to speak, and, starting from this Scripture, he told him the good news about Jesus. As they were going along the road, they came to some water. The eunuch said, "Look, there's some water. What keeps me from being baptized?"

But when Silas and Timothy arrived from Macedonia, Paul devoted himself entirely to the word as he emphatically assured the Jews that Jesus is the Messiah.

Then Paul said, "John baptized when they repented, telling the people to believe in the one who was to come after him, that is, in Jesus." On hearing this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

If you declare with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For one believes with his heart and is justified, and declares with his mouth and is saved. The Scripture says, "Everyone who believes in him will never be ashamed."

But they went out and spread the news about him throughout that region.

Then the neighbors and those who had previously seen him as a beggar said, "This is the man who used to sit and beg, isn't it?" Some were saying, "It's him," while others were saying, "No, but it's someone like him." But he himself kept saying, "It's me!" So they asked him, "How, then, did you gain your eyesight?" read more.
He said, "The man named Jesus made some mud, spread it on my eyes, and told me, "Go to Siloam and wash.' So off I went and washed, and I received my sight." They asked him, "Where is that man?" He said, "I don't know!" So they brought to the Pharisees the man who had once been blind. Now it was a Sabbath day when Jesus made the mud and healed his eyes. So the Pharisees also began to ask him how he had gained his sight. He told them, "He put mud on my eyes, then I washed, and now I can see." Some of the Pharisees began to remark, "This man is not from God because he does not keep the Sabbath." But others were saying, "How can a sinful man perform such signs?" And there was a division among them. So they asked the formerly blind man again, "What do you say about him, since it was your eyes he healed?" He said, "He is a prophet." The Jewish leaders did not believe that the man had been blind and had gained sight until they summoned his parents and asked them, "Is this your son, the one you say was born blind? How does he now see?" His parents replied, "We know that this is our son and that he was born blind. But we don't know how it is that he now sees, and we don't know who opened his eyes. Ask him. He is of age and can speak for himself." His parents said this because they were afraid of the Jewish leaders, since the Jewish leaders had already agreed that anyone who acknowledged that Jesus was the Messiah would be thrown out of the synagogue. This is the builder's son, isn't it? His mother is named Mary, isn't she? His brothers are James, Joseph, Simon, and Judas, aren't they?

We know that God has spoken to Moses, but we do not know where this fellow comes from."

"No one lights a lamp and puts it in a hiding place or under a basket, but on a lamp stand, so that those who enter may see its light. Your eye is the lamp of your body. When your eye is healthy, your whole body is full of light. But when it's evil, your body is full of darkness. Therefore, be careful that the light in you isn't darkness. read more.
Now if your whole body is full of light, with no part of it in darkness, it will be as full of light as when a lamp gives you light with its rays." After Jesus had said this, a Pharisee invited him to have a meal with him. So Jesus went and took his place at the table. The Pharisee was surprised to see that he didn't first wash before the meal. But the Lord told him, "Now you Pharisees clean the outside of the cup and the dish, but on the inside you are full of greed and evil. You fools! The one who made the outside made the inside, too, didn't he? So give what is inside to the poor, and then everything will be clean for you. "How terrible it will be for you Pharisees! You give a tenth of your mint, spices, and every kind of herb, but you neglect justice and the love of God. These are the things you should have practiced, without neglecting the others. How terrible it will be for you Pharisees! You love to have the places of honor in the synagogues and to be greeted in the marketplaces. How terrible it will be for you! You are like unmarked graves people walk on them without realizing it." Then one of the experts in the Law told him, "Teacher, when you say these things, you insult us, too." Jesus said, "How terrible it will be for you experts in the Law, too! You load people with burdens that are hard to carry, yet you don't even lift a finger to ease those burdens. How terrible it will be for you! You build monuments for the prophets, and it was your ancestors who killed them! So you are witnesses and approve of the deeds of your ancestors, because they killed those for whom you are building monuments. That is why the Wisdom of God said, "I will send them prophets and apostles. They will kill some of them and persecute others,' so those living today will be charged with the blood of all the prophets that was shed since the foundation of the world, from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah, who died between the altar and the sanctuary. Yes, I tell you, it will be charged against this generation! How terrible it will be for you experts in the Law! You have taken away the key to knowledge. You didn't go in yourselves, and you kept out those who were trying to go in." As Jesus was leaving, the scribes and the Pharisees began to oppose him fiercely, interrogating him about many things. They watched him closely in an effort to trap him in something he might say.

They replied to him, "We are Abraham's descendants and have never been slaves to anybody. So how can you say, "You will be set free'?" Jesus answered them, "Truly, I tell all of you emphatically, that everyone who commits sin is a slave of sin. The slave does not remain in the household forever, but the son does remain forever. read more.
So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed!" "I know that you are Abraham's descendants. Yet you are trying to kill me because you've not received what I've told you. I declare what I've seen in my Father's presence, and you're doing what you've heard from your father." They replied to him, "Our father is Abraham!" Jesus told them, "If you were Abraham's children, you would be doing what Abraham did. But now you're trying to kill me, a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God. Abraham would'nt have done that. You are doing your father's actions." They told him, "We're not illegitimate children. We have one Father, God himself." Jesus told them, "If God were your Father, you would've loved me, because I came from God and am here. I haven't come on my own accord, but he sent me. Why don't you understand what I've said? It's because you can't listen to my words. You belong to your father the Devil, and you want to carry out the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning and has never stood for truth, since there is no truth in him. Whenever he tells a lie, he speaks in character, because he is a liar and the father of lies. But it is because I speak the truth that you don't believe me. Can any of you prove me guilty of sin? If I'm telling the truth, why don't you believe me? The one who belongs to God listens to the words of God. The reason you don't listen is because you don't belong to God." The Jewish leaders replied to him, "Surely we're right in saying that you are a Samaritan and have a demon, aren't we?" Jesus answered, "I don't have a demon. On the contrary, I honor my Father, and you dishonor me. I don't seek my own glory. There is one who seeks it, and he is the Judge. Truly, I tell all of you emphatically, if anyone keeps my word, he will never see death." Then the Jewish leaders told him, "Now we really know that you have a demon. Abraham died, and so did the prophets, but you say, "If anyone keeps my word, he will never taste death.' You aren't greater than our father Abraham, who died, are you? The prophets also died. Who are you making yourself out to be?" Jesus answered, "If I were trying to glorify myself, my glory would mean nothing. It is my Father who glorifies me, of whom you say, "He is our God.' You don't know him, but I know him. If I were to say that I don't know him, I would be a liar like you. But I do know him and keep his word. Your father Abraham rejoiced that he would see my day, and he saw it and was glad." Then the Jewish leaders asked him, "You are not even 50 years old, yet you have seen Abraham?" Jesus told them, "Truly, I tell all of you emphatically, before there was an Abraham, I AM!" At this, they picked up stones to throw at him, but Jesus hid himself and went out of the Temple.

At this, they turned on him in fury and said, "You are his disciple, but we are disciples of Moses! We know that God has spoken to Moses, but we do not know where this fellow comes from."
