You have forgotten the exhortation that reasons with you as to sons: My son, do not despise (regard lightly) discipline from Jehovah and do not lose heart when he corrects you. (Proverbs 3:11, 12) Jehovah disciplines those he loves. In fact he scourges every son (child) he receives.

Desolation » Why desolation comes
Many foreign rulers have destroyed my vineyard. They trampled down my fields and turned my beautiful land into a desert. They made it a wasteland. It lies desolate before me. Do not be like your ancestors and your relatives who were unfaithful to Jehovah the God of their ancestors. He made them something that shocks people, as you have seen.

You might not faithfully obey every word of the teachings that are written in this book. You might not respect this glorious and awe inspiring name: JEHOVAH your God. If so, Jehovah will strike you and your descendants with unimaginable plagues. They will be terrible continuing plagues. They will be severe and lingering diseases. Why do you test God by placing a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, one that our fathers were not able to bear?
As in the day of Midian's defeat, you have shattered the yoke of his burdens: the bar across their shoulders, the rod of their oppressor.
