And after they had fixed Him to the cross, they parted his garments, casting lots: that it might be fulfilled, which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots. And they sat down and watched Him there: and put up over his head his accusation in writing, THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS. read more.
And there were two thieves crucified with Him: one on his right hand, and one on the left. And they that passed by reviled Him, shaking their heads, and saying, Thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it again in three days, save thyself: if thou art the Son of God, come down from the cross. And in like manner the chief priests also insulting Him, with the scribes and elders, said, He saved others, himself He cannot save: if He be the king of Israel, let Him come down now from the cross, and we will believe Him: He trusted in God, let Him deliver Him now, if He will own Him; for He said, I am the Son of God. And one of the thieves also, that were crucified with Him, cast the same reproach upon Him. Now from the sixth hour to the ninth there was darkness over all the land. And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, "Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani," that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? And some of them that stood by, hearing Him, said, He calls upon Elias: and immediately one of them ran, and took a spunge, and having filled it with vinegar put it upon a reed, and offered it Him to drink; the rest said, Stay, let us see whether Elias will come and save Him. But Jesus cried out again with a loud voice; and then gave up the ghost. And behold the veil of the temple was rent in two from the top to the bottom, and the earth was shaken, and the rocks were split: and the graves opened, and many bodies of departed saints arose, and coming out of the graves, after his resurrection, went into the holy city, and appeared unto many. And when the centurion, and they that were with him guarding Jesus, saw the earthquake, and what was done, they were sore afraid, and said, This was indeed the Son of God. And several women were there looking on at a distance, who had followed Jesus from Galilee, ministring unto Him: among whom was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and Joses, and the mother of Zebedee's children.

And when they had fastened Him to the cross, they parted his garments, casting lots upon them, what each of them should take. And it was the third hour, when they fixed Him on the cross: and the title of his charge was written over Him, THE KING OF THE JEWS. read more.
And they crucified two thieves with Him, one on his right hand and one on his left: so that the scripture was fulfilled, which saith, "And He was numbered with the transgressors." And they that passed by reviled Him, shaking their heads and saying, Ah, thou that destroyest, the temple, and buildest it in three days, save thyself and come down from the cross. And the chief priests likewise scoffing at Him among themselves, with the scribes, said, He saved others, Himself He cannot save: let Christ, the king of Israel, come down now from the cross, that we may see and believe in Him. And even they that were crucified with Him, reviled Him. Now at the sixth hour there was darkness over the whole land, until the ninth hour. And at the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, "Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani," which is being interpreted, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? And some of them that stood by hearing it, said, Behold He calleth upon Elias. And there ran one, and filled a spunge with vinegar, and putting it on a reed offered it Him to drink, saying, Let Him alone, let us see whether Elias will come to take Him down. But Jesus cried with a loud voice and expired. And the veil of the temple was rent in two from the top to the bottom. And when the centurion, that stood over against Him, saw that He expired with such a cry, he said, Truly this man was the Son of God. There were also women at a distance looking on: among whom was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James the less and of Joses, and Salome; who also when He was in Galilee, followed Him and waited on Him: and several others who came up to Jerusalem with Him.

And when they were come to the place which is called Calvary, there they crucified Him and the malefactors: one on his right hand and the other on his left. And Jesus said, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his garments, and cast lots for them. And the people stood looking on, and even the rulers also with them derided Him, saying, He saved others, let Him save Himself, if He be the Christ the chosen of God. read more.
And the soldiers too insulted Him, coming to Him and offering Him vinegar, saying, If thou art the king of the Jews, save thyself. And there was a superscription written over Him in Greek, and Latin and Hebrew letters, THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS. And one of the malefactors that were executed with Him reviled Him, saying, If thou be the Messiah, save thyself and us. But the other answered and rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God neither, when thou thyself art in the same condemnation? And we indeed justly; for we receive the due rewards of our deeds, but this man hath done nothing amiss. And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom. And Jesus answered him, I assure thee, thou shalt be with me this day in paradise. Now it was about the sixth hour, and there was darkness over the whole land till the ninth hour. And the sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was rent in the midst. And Jesus cried with a loud voice and said, Father, into thy hands I commit my spirit. And when He had said thus, He expired. And when the centurion saw what was done, he glorified God, saying, Certainly this man was righteous. And all the multitudes that came together to this affecting sight, seeing what happened, smote on their breasts and returned. And all his acquaintance stood at a distance, and the women that followed Him from Galilee, beholding these things.

where they crucified Him, and with Him two others, one on each side, and Jesus in the middle. And Pilate wrote a title, and put it on the cross: and there was written, JESUS OF NAZARETH THE KING OF THE JEWS. Many of the Jews therefore read this inscription; for the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city, and it was written in Hebrew, Greek, and Latin. read more.
And the chief priests of the Jews said to Pilate, Write not "The king of the Jews," but that "He said, I am king of the Jews." Pilate answered, What I have written, I have written. And the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took his garments, (and made four parts, to each soldier a part,) and his coat. Now the coat had no seam in it, being woven from the top throughout: they said therefore to one another, Let us not cut it, but let us cast lots for it, whose it shall be: that the scripture might be fulfilled, which saith, "They parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots." These things therefore the soldiers did. Now there stood near the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Cleopas, and Mary Magdalene. Jesus therefore seeing his mother, and the disciple whom He loved standing by, saith to his mother, Woman, behold thy son: and then saith to the disciple, Behold thy mother. And from that hour the same disciple took her to his own home. After this Jesus knowing that all things were now finished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst. Now there was set a vessel there full of vinegar: so they filled a spunge with the vinegar, and putting it upon hyssop, held it up to his mouth. And when Jesus had received the vinegar, He said, It is finished. And reclining his head, He yielded up the ghost.
