And when it was evening, there came a rich man from Arimathea, named Joseph, who had himself also become a disciple of Jesus. He went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. Then Pilate ordered it to be given to him. When Josnt took the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, read more.
and laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out of the rock; and he rolled a great stone to the door of the tomb, and departed. Mary Magdalene and the other Mary were sitting there opposite the tomb. The next day, the one after the day of Preparation, the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered to Pilate and said, "Sir, we remember how that deceiver said, while he was still alive, 'After three days I will rise again.' Therefore order that the tomb be made secure until the third day, lest his disciples come by night and steal him away, and tell the people, 'He has risen from the dead.' So the last deception will be worse than the first." Pilate said to them, "You have a guard; go your way, make it as secure as you know how." So they went and made the tomb secure by sealing the stone and setting a guard.

Now when evening had come, because it was the Preparation Day, that is, the day before the Sabbath, Josnt of Arimathea, a prominent council member, who was himself waiting for the kingdom of God, coming and taking courage, went in to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. Pilate marveled that he was already dead; and summoning the centurion, he asked him if he was already dead. read more.

Therefore, because it was the day of Preparation, that the bodies should not remain on the cross on the Sabbath (for that Sabbath was a high day), the Jews asked Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away. Then the soldiers came and broke the legs of the first, and of the other who had been crucified with him. But when they came to Jesus and saw that he was already dead, they did not break his legs. read more.
But one of the soldiers pierced his side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out. He who saw it has testified, and his testimony is true, and he knows that he tells the truth, that you also may believe. For these things were done that the scripture should be fulfilled, "Not one of his bones shall be broken." And again another scripture says, "They shall look on him whom they have pierced." After this Josnt of Arimathea, who was a disciple of Jesus, but secretly, for fear of the Jews, asked Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus, and Pilate gave him permission. So he came and took away his body. And Nicodemus, who had at first come to Jesus by night, also came, bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about a hundred pounds. So they took the body of Jesus, and bound it in strips of linen with the spices, as is the burial custom of the Jews. Now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb in which no one had ever been laid. So because of the Jewish day of Preparation, as the tomb was nearby, they laid Jesus there.

While they were perplexed about this, behold, two men stood by them in dazzling apparel. And as they were terrified and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them, "Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here, but is risen! Remember how he told you while he was still in Galilee, 'The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and on the third day rise again.'" And they remembered his words. Then they returned from the tomb and told all these things to the eleven and to all the rest.
