This is he of whom it is written: 'Behold, I send my messenger ahead of you. He will prepare the way for you.' I tell you, there is none, born of women, greater then John the Baptist. Yet the least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. From the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven has been man's goal, and men of violence have attempted to take it by force. For all the Prophets and the Law prophesied until John. If you are willing to receive it, this is Elijah, who is to come. He who has ears to hear let him listen! Of what shall I compare this generation? It is like children sitting in the marketplaces, who call to their playmates. They say: 'We piped for you and you did not dance. We cried and you did not mourn.' For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, 'He has a demon.' The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, 'A gluttonous man and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!' Wisdom is justified by its actions.

In that hour he cured many diseases, plagues and evil spirits. Sight was restored to the blind. He answered John's disciples: Go and tell John the things you have seen and heard. When the people heard, they acknowledged God's justice. They received their baptism from John. The Pharisees and the lawyers rejected the counsel of God and were not baptized by him. To whom or what should I compare the men of this generation? They are like children that sit in the marketplace and call to each other. We played the flute for you but you did not dance. We wailed and you did not weep. John the Baptist came fasting and drinking no wine and you say he has a demon. The Son of man came eating and drinking, and you say look he is a gluttonous man, and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners! All her children vindicate wisdom.

The beginning of the good news about Jesus Christ, the Son of God. The prophet Isaiah wrote: I am sending my messenger ahead of you to prepare your way. The voice of one crying in the wilderness, prepare the way of Jehovah (YHWH), make his paths straight. (Isaiah 40:3)

This was in the time when Annas and Caiaphas were chief priests. The word of God was delivered to John the son of Zechariah. He was in the wilderness. John traveled in the region near the Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. John gave his witness even as Jewish authorities sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem. They asked him: Who are you? He said: I am not the Christ. They asked him: Are you Elijah? He said: I am not. Are you the prophet? He answered: No. read more.

The priests should teach the true knowledge of God. They are the messengers of Jehovah of Hosts. Therefore the people should learn (my will) the law from them.

Behold! I will send you Elijah the prophet before the great and terrible Day of Jehovah comes. He will turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers and bring them together again before I come and strike the earth with destruction (a curse).


Then Haggai gave Jehovah's message to the people: I am with you!
