Then Jesus was led up into the desert by the Spirit, to be tempted by the devil. And after he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he became hungry, So the tempter came and said to him, "If you are the Son of God, bid these stones to become bread." read more.
Jesus answered him, "It is written, Not by bread alone shall man live, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God." Then the devil took him up into the Holy City and stood him on the parapet of the temple, and said to him. "If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down; for it is written, "He will give his angels charge over thee; Upon their hands they will bear thee up, Lest thou dash thy foot against a stone." "It is written again," answered Jesus, "Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God." Then the devil took Jesus to a very high mountain, and showed all the kingdoms of the earth and the glory of them, and said to him, "All these will I give you, if you will fall down and worship me." "Begone, Satan!" answered Jesus, for it is written, "Thou must worship the Lord thy God, and Him only must thou serve."

Then Jesus was led up into the desert by the Spirit, to be tempted by the devil. And after he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he became hungry,

Then the Spirit drove him at once into the desert, and he remained in the desert for forty days, tempted by Satan; and he was among the wild beasts, but the angels were ministering to him.

Then Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, came back from the Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the desert for forty days, all the time tempted by the devil. He ate nothing during these days, and at the close of them he was hungry.

"To you will I give all this authority and this glory; for it has been handed over to me, and I give it to whomever I wish. "If then you will worship me, it shall all be yours." "It is written," answered Jesus, "Thou shalt worship the Lord, thy God, and him only shalt thou serve." Then he brought him to Jerusalem, and caused him to stand upon the Temple roof, and said to him. "If you really are the Son of God throw yourself down here; for it is written, "He shall give his angels charge of thee, to guard thee safely; "They will bear thee up in their hands, Lest thou dash thy food against a stone." "It has been said," replied Jesus, "Thou shalt not tempt the Lord, thy God." So, after exhausting on him every kind of temptation, the devil left him for a time.
