And Abram moved his tent, and came and dwelt by the oaks of Mamre, which are in Hebron, and built an altar there to LORD.


And they came to the place which God had told him of. And Abraham built the altar there, and laid the wood in order, and bound Isaac his son, and laid him on the altar, upon the wood.


Now LORD said to Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, to the land that I will show thee. And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great, and be thou a blessing. And I will bless those who bless thee, and he who curses thee I will curse. And in thee shall all the families of the earth be blessed.

Look to Abraham your father, and to Sarah who bore you. For when he was but one I called him, and I blessed him, and made him many.

By faith Abraham, when called, obeyed to go out to the place that he was going to take for an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going.


And he said, Take now thy son, thine only son, whom thou love, even Isaac, and get thee into the land of Moriah. And offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of.

After these things the word of LORD came to Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram. I am thy shield, thy exceedingly great reward. And, behold, the word of LORD came to him, saying, This man shall not be thine heir, but he who shall come forth out of thine own bowels shall be thine heir. And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and number the stars, if thou be able to number them. And he said to him, So shall thy seed be. And he believed in LORD, and he reckoned it to him for righteousness. And he said to him, I am LORD who brought thee out of Ur of the Chaldees, to give thee this land to inherit it. And he said, O lord LORD, how shall I know that I shall inherit it? And he said to him, Take a heifer three years old for me, and a she-goat three years old, and a ram three years old, and a turtle dove, and a young pigeon. And he took all these for him, and divided them in the midst, and laid each half opposite the other. But he did not divide the birds. And the birds of prey came down upon the carcasses, and Abram drove them away. And when the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram. And, lo, a horror of great darkness fell upon him. And he said to Abram, Know of a certainty that thy seed shall be sojourners in a land that is not theirs. And shall serve them, and they shall afflict them four hundred years. And also I will judge that nation, whom they shall serve, and afterward they shall come out with great substance. But thou will go to thy fathers in peace; thou will be buried in a good old age. And in the fourth generation they shall come here again, for the iniquity of the Amorite is not yet full. And it came to pass, that, when the sun went down, and it was dark, behold, a smoking furnace, and a flaming torch that passed between these pieces.


And Abraham gave all that he had to Isaac. But to the sons of the concubines, that Abraham had, Abraham gave gifts. And he sent them away from Isaac his son, while he yet lived, eastward, to the east country.


And LORD appeared to Abram, and said, I will give this land to thy seed. And there he built an altar to LORD, who appeared to him. And he moved from there to the mountain on the east of Bethel, and pitched his tent, having Bethel on the west, and Ai on the east. And there he built an altar to LORD, and called upon the name of LORD.

And these are the days of the years of Abraham's life which he lived, a hundred seventy-five years.
