For everyone who does evil deeds hates the light and does not come to the light, so that their deeds will not be exposed.

"If the world hates you, be aware that it hated me first. If you belonged to the world, the world would love you as its own. However, because you do not belong to the world, but I chose you out of the world, for this reason the world hates you. Remember what I told you, 'A slave is not greater than his master.' If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they obeyed my word, they will obey yours too.

None of the rulers of this age understood it. If they had known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.

He came to what was his own, but his own people did not receive him.

Who would have believed what we just heard? When was the Lord's power revealed through him?

"O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those who are sent to you! How often I have longed to gather your children together as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you would have none of it!

Now when Jesus approached and saw the city, he wept over it, saying, "If you had only known on this day, even you, the things that make for peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes.

and how our chief priests and rulers handed him over to be condemned to death, and crucified him.
