Thematic Bible: Paul teaches

Thematic Bible

The wife is bound to her husband as long as he lives. If her husband dies, she is free to marry whom she wishes, only in the Lord. But she is happier if she remains as she is. This is my opinion and I think I also have the Spirit of God.

Concerning the things that you wrote to me: It is good for a man not to touch (have sex with) a woman. Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband. Let the husband fulfill his marital duties to his wife and also the wife to her husband. read more.
The wife has no authority over her own body, but her husband does. Likewise also the husband has no authority over his own body, but his wife does. Do not deprive each other except by mutual consent for a time. That way you may give yourselves to fasting and prayer. Then come together again, that Satan may not tempt you because of your lack of self-control. But I speak this by concession and not by commandment. I prefer that all men were as I am. But every man has his proper gift from God, one after this manner, and another after that. I say therefore to the unmarried and widows, it is good for them if they stay unmarried like me. But if they cannot control themselves, let them marry. It is better to marry than to be inflamed [with lust].

Now concerning virgins I have no commandment from the Lord. Yet I give my opinion as one who has obtained the mercy of the Lord to be faithful. Because of the present distress I think it is good for you to remain as you are.

I want you to be free from anxiety. He who is unmarried cares for the things that belong to the Lord, how he may please the Lord. But he who is married cares for the things that are of the world, how he may please his wife.

However I see a different law at work in my body. This law fights against the law that my mind approves of. It makes me a prisoner to the law of sin that is at work in my body.

For we know that the law is spiritual. But I am fleshly and sold under sin. I do not understand what I am doing. For what I want to do I do not do. What I hate, I do. But if what I do not want to do, I do, I consent to the law that it is right. read more.
Now then it is no longer I that do it, but the sin that dwells in me. I know that good does not live in my human nature. For even though the desire to do good is in me, I am not able to do it. I do not do the good I want to do. Instead, I do the evil that I do not want to do. If I do what I do not want to do, this means that I am no longer the one who does it. Instead, it is the sin that lives in me. I find that this law is at work. When I want to do what is good, what is evil is the only choice I have. My inner person delights in the law of God. However I see a different law at work in my body. This law fights against the law that my mind approves of. It makes me a prisoner to the law of sin that is at work in my body. Miserable man that I am! Who will rescue me from the body undergoing this death?

But I discipline my body, and bring it into subjection, so that after I have preached to others I will not be disqualified.
