The beginning of strife is like breaching a dam, therefore stop contention before quarreling breaks out.
It is an honor for a man to keep aloof from strife; but every fool will be quarreling.
Like one who grabs a dog's ears is one who passes by and meddles in a quarrel not his own.
The Lord's servant must not quarrel, but be gentle towards all, able to teach, patient,
Do not be hasty in bringing charges to court. What will you do in the end when your neighbor shames you?
doing nothing through rivalry or through conceit, but in humility, each counting others better than himself;
But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your heart, do not boast and do not lie against the truth.
Remind them of these things, charging them in the presence of God, that they do not argue about words, to no profit, to the subverting of those who hear.

Do not be hasty in bringing charges to court. What will you do in the end when your neighbor shames you? Debate your case with your neighbor, and do not betray the confidence of another; lest one who hears it put you to shame, and your bad reputation never depart.
Let us walk properly, as in the day; not in reveling and drunkenness, not in sexual promiscuity and lustful acts, and not in strife and jealousy.
