Because of all my adversaries, I have become a reproach, Especially to my neighbors, And an object of dread to my acquaintances; Those who see me in the street flee from me. I am forgotten as a dead man, out of mind; I am like a broken vessel.
Even my close friend in whom I trusted,
Who ate my bread,
Has lifted up his heel against me.
You have removed my acquaintances far from me;
You have made me an object of loathing to them;
I am shut up and cannot go out.
You have removed lover and friend far from me;
My acquaintances are in darkness.
I am forgotten as a dead man, out of mind;
I am like a broken vessel.
For the living know they will die; but the dead do not know anything, nor have they any longer a reward, for their memory is forgotten.
