[To the Chief Musician upon shoshannim. A Psalm of David.] Save me, O God; for the waters have come in unto my soul.


Then the waters would have overwhelmed us, the stream would have gone over our soul:

And though the Lord gives you the bread of adversity, and the water of affliction, yet shall your teachers not be moved into a corner any more, but your eyes shall see your teachers:

The waters surrounded me, even to the soul: the deep closed me round about, the weeds were wrapped about my head.

For even Christ pleased not himself; but, as it is written, The reproaches of them that reproached you fell on me.

I sink in deep mire, where there is no standing: I have come into deep waters, where the floods overflow me. They that hate me without a cause are more than the hairs of my head: they that would destroy me, being my enemies wrongfully, are mighty: then I restored that which I took not away. O God, you know my foolishness; and my sins are not hid from you. Let not them that wait on you, O Lord GOD of hosts, be ashamed for my sake: let not those that seek you be disgraced for my sake, O God of Israel. Because for your sake I have borne reproach; shame has covered my face. I have become a stranger unto my brethren, and an alien unto my mother's children. For the zeal of your house has eaten me up; and the reproaches of them that reproached you are fallen upon me.
