Evening came and the disciples approached Jesus and said: This place is desolate. Send the people away so they may go to the villages and buy themselves food. Jesus told them: They have no need to go away: you feed them. They remarked: We have only five loaves, and two fishes. read more.
Bring them to me, Jesus replied. He commanded the crowd to sit down on the grass. Then he prayed. He gave the five loaves and two fishes to the disciples to distribute to the crowd. And they all had plenty to eat. In fact they had twelve baskets full of food left over. About five thousand men, plus women and children ate.

Jesus called his disciples and said: I feel compassion for the people, because they have remained with me now three days and have nothing to eat. I do not want to send them away hungry, for they might faint on the way. The disciples replied: Where would we get so many loaves in this desolate place to satisfy such a large crowd? Jesus asked: How many loaves do you have? They said: Seven, and a few small fish. read more.
He told the people to sit down on the ground. He took the seven loaves and the fish and offered a prayer of thanksgiving. Then he broke them and gave them to the disciples. The disciples gave them to the people. They all ate and were satisfied. When they picked up what was left over of the broken pieces, there were seven large baskets full. Four thousand men, besides women and children were fed.
