But Jesus Christ was begotten thus: After his mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they had come together, she was found to be with child of the Holy Spirit. Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not choosing to make an example of her, intended to put her away privately. But while he was thinking of these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying: Joseph, son of David, fear not to take home Mary your wife; for that which is begotten in her is of the Holy Spirit.read more.
And she will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus; for he will save his people from their sins. Now all this was done, that the word might be fulfilled, which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying: Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bear a son, and his name shall be called Immanuel, which, when translated, is, God with us. And Joseph awoke from his sleep, and did as the angel of the Lord had commanded him; and he took home his wife, and knew her not till she had brought forth her first-born son. And in the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent from God into a city of Galilee, named Nazareth, to a virgin be trothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the name of the virgin was Mary. And the angel came into her presence, and said: Hail, graciously accepted: the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women.read more.
And she was perplexed at his words, and reasoned, what this salutation could mean. And the angel said to her: Fear not, Mary; for you have found favor with God. And behold, you shall conceive and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus. He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give to him the throne of David his father; and he shall reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there shall be no end. But Mary said to the angel: How shall this be, since I know not a man? And the angel answered and said to her: The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; for which reason, also, that which is begotten, being holy, shall be called the Son of God. And behold, Elizabeth your kinswoman, even she has conceived a son in her old age; and this is the sixth month with her who is called barren; for nothing shall be impossible with God. And Mary said: Behold the handmaid of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word. And the angel departed from her.
And it came to pass in those days, that there went forth a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the inhabitants of the land should be enrolled. This enrollment first took place when Cyrenius was governor of Syria. And all went to be enrolled, each one to his own city.read more.
And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, (for he was of the house and family of David,). to be enrolled with Mary his be trothed wife, who was with child. And it came to pass while they were there, that the days for her to be delivered were completed; and she brought forth her first-born son, and wrapped him in swathing-clothes, and laid him in the stable, because there was no place for them in the inn. And there were in the same country shepherds, living in the open field, and guarding their flock by night. And, behold, an angel of the Lord stood by them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them; and they were greatly afraid. And the angel said to them: Be not afraid; for, behold, I bring you good news of great joy, which shall be for all people. For there is born for you this day, in the city of David, a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this shall be to you the sign: you will find the babe wrapped in swathing-clothes, and lying in a stable. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host, praising God, and saying: Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will among men. And it came to pass, that, after the angels had gone away into heaven, the shepherds said one to another: Let us now go to Bethlehem, and see this thing that has come to pass, which the Lord has made known to us. And they came with haste, and found both Mary and Joseph, and the babe lying in the stable. And after they had seen it, they made known every where the words that had been spoken to them of this child. And all that heard, wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds. But Mary kept all these things in her mind, and pondered them in her heart. And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all things which they had heard and seen, as it had been told to them.

Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea, in the days of Herod the king, behold, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem, saying: Where is he that is born king of the Jews? For we have seen his star in the east, and have come to do him homage.
And again, Isaiah says: There shall be a root of Jesse, and he that shall rise to rule the Gentiles, in him shall the Gentiles trust. Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in the hope, by the power of the Holy Spirit. PAET IV. Conclusion.
For the things which were formerly written, were written for our instruction, that we, through the patience and the comfort which the scriptures give, might have hope. Now, may the God of patience and comfort make you of the same mind one toward another, according to Christ Jesus; that with one mind and with one voice you may glorify God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.read more.

But the same John had his clothing of camel's hair, and a girdle of leather around his loins, and his food was locusts and wild honey. But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his immersion, he said to them: Generation of vipers, who has warned you to flee from the coining wrath? Bring forth, therefore, fruit worthy of repentance: and think not to say within yourselves, "We have Abraham for our father; for I say to you that God is able from these stones to raise up children to Abraham. Even now the ax is lying at the root of the trees: therefore, every tree that does not bring forth good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. I immerse you in water, in order to repentance; but he that comes after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will immerse you in the Holy Spirit and in fire: whose winnowing-shovel is in his hand, and he will thoroughly cleanse his thrashing-floor, and gather his grain into his granary; but the chaff he will burn with unquenchable fire.

And do this, because you know the time, that the hour has already come when we should awake out of sleep; for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed: the night is far advanced, the day draws near. Let us, therefore, put off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light. Let us walk in a becoming manner, as in the day; not in riotings and in drunkenness, not in lewdness and in wantonness, not in. contention and in envy:read more.
but put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the desires of the flesh.
