For God is my witness, how I long for you all, with the bowels of Jesus Christ.

My little children, of whom I travail in birth again, till Christ be formed in you,

Beside the things which are from without, that which rusheth upon me daily, the care of all the churches.

If there be then any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any bowels and mercies; Fulfil ye my joy, that ye think the same thing, having the same love, being of one soul, of one mind.

But we were gentle in the midst of you, even as a nurse cherisheth her own children. So, loving you tenderly, we were ready to impart to you not only the gospel of God, but our own souls also, because ye were dear to us.

For this cause I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
