I write these things while I am absent, in order that when I come I may not have to be severe in my use of the authority which the Lord gave me for building you up, and not for tearing you down.

For even if I boast somewhat further about our authority, which the Lord gave for building you up and not for destroying you, I shall not be put to shame.

For you know what instructions we gave you by the authority of the Lord Jesus.

For though I am absent in body, I am present in spirit, and have already passed judgment on the one who has committed this, as if I were present. In the name of our Lord Jesus, when you are assembled, and I with you in spirit, and the power of our Lord Jesus is present, you are to deliver this man to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, so that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.

nor did we seek glory from men, either from you or from others, though we might have made demands as apostles of Christ.

For you remember our labor and toil, brethren; we worked night and day, that we might not be a burden to any of you, while we preached to you the gospel of God.

Or did I commit a sin in humbling myself that you might be exalted, because I preached the gospel of God to you without charge? I robbed other churches by accepting support from them in order to serve you. And when I was with you and needed something, I was not a burden to anyone, for the brethren who came from Macedonia supplied what I needed. I have kept myself from being a burden to you in any way, and will continue to do so.
