Also if anyone competes as an athlete, he does not win the prize unless he competes according to the rules.
Everyone who competes in the games exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. Therefore I do not run aimlessly. I do not box as a man beating the air. But I discipline my body and make it my slave, so that, after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified.
Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win.
For bodily training is of some value, but godliness is of value in all things, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.
Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body.
For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant; but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it. Therefore lift your feeble hands and strengthen your weak knees, and make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be put out of joint, but rather be healed.
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
