And the other disciples came in the vessel (for they were not far from land, about two hundred cubits) drawing the net, full of fishes. When they came ashore, they see a fire of coals there, and fish laid thereon, and bread.
But when we had finished these days, we departed and went our way; and they all attended us out of the city, with their wives and children: and kneeling down on the sea-shore we prayed.
And when it was day, they did not know the land; but they observed a certain creek having a shore, into which they were minded, if possible, to thrust the ship: And having taken up the anchors, they committed it to the sea, at the same time loosing the rudder-bands, and hoisting up the stay-sail to the wind, they made for the shore.
And being escaped, we then knew, that the island was called Melita. And the barbarians shewed us uncommon kindness; for having kindled a fire, they brought us all to it, because of the present rain, and because of the cold.
And great multitudes were gathered together, to him, so that he went into the vessel and sat, and all the multitude stood on the shore.
Which when it was full, they drew to the shore, and sitting down, gathered the good into vessels, but cast the bad away.

And when the barbarians saw the venomous animal hanging on his hand, they said one to another, Doubtless this man is a murderer, whom though he hath escaped the sea, vengeance hath not suffered to live. But having shaken off the venomous animal into the fire, he felt no harm. However they expected, that he would have swollen, or suddenly fallen down dead: but after having waited a considerable time, seeing no mischief befall him, they changed their minds and said, that he was a god.
