AFTER these things Jesus and his disciples came into the country of Judea; and there he staid with them, and baptized.

And they came to John and said to him, Rabbi, he that was with you beyond the Jordan, to whom you testified, behold, this [man] baptizes and all men come to him.

When, therefore, the Lord knew that the Pharisees heard that Jesus made and baptized more disciples than John,

though Jesus himself indeed baptized not, but his disciples,

go and disciple all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit;

And hearing this they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus:

And Peter said to them, Change your minds, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins, and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Then those that received his word were baptized, and there were added on that day about three thousand souls;

For Christ sent me not to baptize but to preach the good news, not with a wisdom of speech lest the cross of Christ should be without effect.

Else what will they do who are baptized for the dead, if the dead rise not at all? and why are they baptized for them?
