But the chief priests and elders persuaded the multitude, to ask Barabbas, and destroy Jesus. The governour answering said to them, Which of the two will ye that I release to you? They say, Barabbas. Pilate saith to them, What shall I do then with Jesus, who is called Christ? They all say to him, Let him be crucified. And the governour said, Why, what evil hath he done? But they cried out the more, saying, Let him be crucified. Then Pilate, seeing, that he could prevail nothing, but rather a tumult was made, took water and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just man: see ye to it. Then all the people answering said, His blood be on us and on our children. Then released he Barabbas to them, and having scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified.

And Pilate answered them, saying, Will ye that I release to you the king of the Jews? (For he knew that the chief priests had delivered him for envy) But the chief priests stirred up the people to desire, that he would rather release Barabbas to them. read more.
And Pilate answering said to them again, What will ye then that I do to him whom ye call the king of the Jews? And they cried out again, Crucify him. Then Pilate said to them, Why, what evil hath he done? And they cried out the more exceedingly, Crucify him. And Pilate, willing to satisfy the people, released Barabbas to them, and having scourged Jesus, delivered him to be crucified.

I will therefore chastise and release him. For he was under a necessity of releasing one to them at the feast. And they cried all at once saying, Away with this man, and release to us Barabbas: (Who for an insurrection made in the city, and for murder had been cast into prison.) Pilate hearing this saying, brought Jesus forth, and sat on the judgment seat, in a place called the Pavement, but in Hebrew, Gabbatha; (It was then the preparation of the passover, and about the third hour:) And saith to the Jews, Behold your king. But they cried out, Away with him, away with him. Pilate saith to them, Shall I crucify your king? The chief priests answered, We have no king but Cesar. read more.
