By faith Abraham, when called, obeyed to go forth into the place which he was about to receive for an inheritance; and he went forth, not knowing whither he was going.

For what does the Scripture say? "And Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned to him for righteousness."

Even as Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned to him for righteousness. Know, then, that those who are of faith, the same are sons of Abraham.

and the Scripture was fulfilled which says, "And Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned to him for righteousness"; and he was called "God's Friend."

But, as the time of the promise which God promised to Abraham was drawing nigh, the people increased and were multiplied in Egypt,

And thus, having patiently endured, he obtained the promise.

to show mercy towards our fathers, and to remember His holy covenant; the oath which He swore to Abraham, our father;

neither, because they are Abraham's seed, are they all children; but, "In Isaac shall your seed be called." That is, the children of the flesh are not the children of God; but the children of the promise are reckoned for a seed.

But ye, brethren, after the manner of Isaac, are children of promise.

And He gave him a covenant of circumcision; and so he begat Isaac, and circumcised him on the eighth day; and Isaac, Jacob; and Jacob, the twelve patriarchs.

Ye are the sons of the prophets, and of the covenant which God made with your fathers, saying to Abraham, 'And in your Seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed.'

And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the gentiles through faith, proclaimed beforehand the Gospel to Abraham, saying, "In you shall all the nations be blessed." So that those who are of faith are blessed with the faithful Abraham.
