For I have come to set a man 'against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law;

Do you think that I came to give peace on earth? No, I tell you, but rather division. For from now on there will be five in one house divided: three against two, and two against three.

And there was much complaining among the people about him. Some said, "He is a good man"; others said, "No, on the contrary, he deceives the people."

When they heard these words, some of the people said, "Surely this is the prophet." Others said, "This is the Christ." But some said, "Will the Christ come from Galilee? Has not the scripture said that the Christ comes from David, and from Bethlehem, the town where David was?"read more.
So there was a division among the people because of him.

Some of the Pharisees said, "This man is not from God, for he does not keep the Sabbath." But others said, "How can a man who is a sinner do such signs?" And there was a division among them.

There was again a division among the Jews because of these words.

But the people of the city were divided; some sided with the Jews, and some with the apostles.

And when Paul and Barnabas had no small dissension and debate with them, Paul and Barnabas and some of the others were appointed to go up to Jerusalem to the apostles and the elders about this question.

The dispute became so violent that the commander was afraid Paul would be torn to pieces by them and ordered the troops to go down and take him away from them by force, and bring him into the barracks.

I appeal to you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be united in the same mind and in the same judgment.

for you are still carnal. For since there is jealousy and strife among you, are you not carnal, and are you not walking like mere men? For when one says, "I am of Paul," and another, "I am of Apollos," are you not mere men?

Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul? There arose such a sharp disagreement that they separated from one another, and Barnabas took Mark with him and sailed away to Cyprus. But Paul chose Silas and left, being commended by the brethren to the grace of the Lord. And he went through Syria and Cilicia, strengthening the churches.

For we have found this man a pestilent fellow who stirs up dissension among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes.

I urge you, brethren, to take note of those who cause divisions and difficulties, contrary to the doctrine which you have learned; avoid them.

As I urged you when I went into Macedonia, remain on at Ephesus so that you may instruct certain men not to teach strange doctrines, nor to devote themselves to myths and endless genealogies. These promote controversies rather than the divine trainingwhich is by faith.
