But I say to you, Whoever shall put away his wife, unless on account of lewdness, causes her to commit adultery: and whoever marries her that is divorced, commits adultery.
And the Pharisees came to him to tempt him, and said to him: Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause?
But to the married I give commandment, not I, but the Lord: Let not the wife leave her husband:
He answered and said to them: Have you not read that the Creator, at the beginning, created them male and female, and said, For this cause shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave to his wife, and the two shall be one flesh? So then, they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore, what God has joined together, let not man put asunder.
But to the rest, I, and not the Lord, say: If any brother has a wife that believes not, and she is well pleased to dwell with him, let him not put her away. And if any woman has a husband that believes not, and he is well pleased to dwell with her, let her not put him away. For the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband; for if not, then are your children unclean; but now they are holy.
But from the beginning of the creation, God made them male and female. For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined to his wife; and the two shall be one flesh. So, then, they are no longer two, but one flesh.read more.
Therefore, what God has joined together, let not man put asunder.
but if she leave him, let her remain unmarried, or be reconciled to her husband: and, let not the husband put away his wife.
Whoever divorces his wife and marries another, commits adultery: and whoever marries her that is divorced, commits adultery.
And he said to them: Whoever puts away his wife, and marries another, commits adultery against her; and if a woman puts away her husband, and is married to another, she commits adultery.
For this cause a man shall leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave to his wife, and the two shall be one flesh.
For the woman that has a husband, is bound by the law to her husband as long as he lives: but if her husband die, she is loosed from the law of her husband. So then, if, while her husband lives, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress. But if her husband die, she is free from the law; so that she is not an adulteress, though she be married to another man.
He said to them: Moses, on account of the hardness of your hearts, permitted you to put away your wives; but from the beginning it was not so.
The wife is bound as long as her husband lives; but if her husband die, she is free to be married to whom she will, only in the Lord.
And Jesus answered and said to them: On account of the hardness of your hearts, he wrote this commandment for you.
But I say to you, That whoever puts away his wife, unless for lewdness, and marries another, commits adultery; and he that marries her that is put away, commits adultery.
But if the unbelieving depart, let him depart; the brother or sister is not bound in such cases. But God has called us to live in peace.
