I have written these things to you that believe on the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may believe on the name of the Son of God.
but these are written, that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life through his name.
For the things which were formerly written, were written for our instruction, that we, through the patience and the comfort which the scriptures give, might have hope.

But shun profane and vain babblings; for they will make further advance to ungodliness,
But foolish questions and genealogies and strifes and contentions about the law, avoid; for they are unprofitable and vain.
