20 Bible Verses about Comfort

We beg you, brothers, continue to warn the shirkers, to cheer the faint-hearted, to hold up the weak, and to be patient with everybody.

But whoever prophesies is speaking to men for their upbuilding. encouragement, and comfort.

For in this way you can all, one after another, speak your prophetic message, so that all may learn and be encouraged,

so you must do the opposite, freely forgive and comfort him, to keep him from being overwhelmed by his excessive sadness.

But God, who comforts the downhearted, comforted me by the coming of Titus,

I have told you these things, that you through union with me may have peace. In the world you have trouble, but be courageous! I have conquered the world."

Now when the Lord saw her, His heart was moved with pity for her, and so He said to her, "Stop weeping."

"Stop letting your hearts be troubled; keep on believing in God, and also in me.

I will not leave you helpless orphans. I am coming back to you.

And Jesus, on turning and seeing her, said, "Cheer up, my daughter! Your faith has cured you." And from that moment the woman was well.

So the Jews who were with her in the house sympathizing with her, when they saw Mary jump up and go out, followed her, because they supposed that she was going to the grave to pour out her grief there.

You must remain in union with me and I will remain in union with you. Just as no branch by itself can bear fruit unless it remains united to the vine, so you cannot unless you remain in union with me. I am the vine, you are the branches. Whoever remains in union with me and I in union with him will bear abundant fruit, because you cannot do anything cut off from union with me. If anyone does not remain in union with me, he is thrown away as a mere branch and is dried up; then it is picked up and thrown into the fire and burned up. No one can show greater love than this, the giving of his life for his friends. You are my friends, if you keep on doing what I command you to do. I no longer call you slaves, because the slave does not know what his master is doing; I now call you friends, because I have told you everything that I have learned from my Father. You have not chosen me; I have chosen you, and appointed you to go and bear fruit, that your fruit may remain too, so that the Father may grant you, as bearers of my name, whatever you ask Him for. "What I command you to do is, to keep on loving one another. If the world continues to hate you, remember that it has first hated me. If you belonged to the world, the world would love what is its own. But it is because you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, that the world hates you. Remember what I once told you: No slave is greater than his master. If they have persecuted me, they will persecute you too. If they have observed my teaching, they will observe yours too. They will do all this to you on account of me, because they do not know Him who has sent me. "If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not be guilty of sin. But now the fact is, they have no excuse for their sin. Whoever continues to hate me continues to hate my Father too. If I had not done things among them that no one else has ever done, they would not be guilty of sin. But now the fact is, they have seen and even hated both my Father and me. But this is so that the saying written in their law may be fulfilled, 'They hated me without a cause.' "When the Helper comes whom I will send from the Father to you, the Spirit of truth that comes from the Father, He will testify to me.

But now I am going away to Him who has sent me, and not one of you is asking me where I am going, but sorrow has taken complete possession of your hearts, because I have told you these things. Yet it is nothing but the truth I now tell you, that it is better for you that I should go away. For if I do not go away, the Helper will not come into close fellowship with you, but if I do go away, I will send Him to be in close fellowship with you. read more.
"And when He comes, He will bring conviction to worldly people about sin and uprightness and judgment; about sin, because they do not believe in me; about uprightness, because I go away to the Father so that you can no longer see me; about judgment, because the evil ruler of this world has been condemned. But when the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into the whole truth, for He will not speak on His own authority but will tell what is told Him, and will announce to you the things that are to come. He will glorify me, because He will take the things that belong to me and tell them to you. Everything that the Father has is mine; this is why I have told you, 'He will take the things that are mine and tell them to you.'

So continue encouraging one another and helping one another in character building.
