Therefore, as a means of spiritual preparation, tighten up the belt about your minds, keep perfectly calm, keep your hope on the spiritual blessing to be conferred upon you at the unveiling of Jesus Christ. As obedient children, stop molding your character by the evil desires you used to cherish when you did not know any better, but in accordance with the Holy Being who has called you, you must prove to be holy too,
If all these things are to be dissolved in this way, what men you ought to be! What holy and pious lives you ought to lead, since you are awaiting and hastening the coming of the day of God, which will cause the heavens to blaze and dissolve and the heavenly bodies to burn up and melt away!
so that there is no spiritual gift in which you consciously come short, while you are waiting for the unveiling of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the very end He will guarantee that you are vindicated at the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. May the Lord guide you into a realization of God's love for you and into a patient endurance like Christ's.
Keep up the good fight for the faith. Keep your hold on eternal life, to which God called you, when before many witnesses you made the good profession of faith. But you, brothers, are not in darkness, so that that day, like a thief, should take you by surprise; for you are all sons of the light and sons of the day. We do not belong to the night or the darkness. So let us stop sleeping as others do, but let us stay awake and keep sober.
(See! I am coming like a thief! Blessed is he who stays awake and keeps his clothes ready, so that he may not go naked and people see his shame.)
But whoever bears up to the end will be saved. And this good news of the kingdom must be preached all over the inhabited world, for a testimony to all the heathen, and then the end will come.
So, my dear brothers, continue to be firm, incapable of being moved, always letting the cup run over in the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the service of the Lord is never thrown away.

Do this in particular because you know the present crisis, that it is high time for you to wake up out of your sleep, for our salvation is now nearer to us than when we first believed. The night has almost passed; the day is at hand. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness, and put on the weapons of light.
You must be patient, too; you must put iron into your hearts, because the coming of the Lord is close at hand. Stop muttering against one another, brothers, so as to keep from being judged yourselves. Look! The Judge is standing at the very door.
But the end of everything on earth is near. So be serious and sober minded, that you may give yourselves to prayer.
But we are citizens of the republic in heaven, from which we are eagerly waiting for our Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ.
For God's favor has appeared with its offer of salvation to all mankind, training us to give up godless ways and worldly cravings and live serious, upright, and godly lives in this world, while we are waiting for the realization of our blessed hope at the glorious appearing of our great God and Saviour Christ Jesus,
Not only that but this too, we ourselves who enjoy the Spirit as a foretaste of the future, even we ourselves, keep up our inner groanings while we wait to enter upon our adoption as God's sons at the redemption of our bodies. For we were saved in such a hope. But a hope that is seen is not real hope, for who hopes for what he actually sees? But if we hope for something we do not see, we keep on patiently waiting for it.
Also we do not want you to have any misunderstanding, brothers, about those who are falling asleep, so as to keep you from grieving over them as others do who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, then through Jesus, God will bring back with Him those who have fallen asleep. For on the Lord's own authority we say that those of us who may be left behind and are still living when the Lord comes back, will have no advantage at all over those who have fallen asleep.
Now the crown for doing right awaits me, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award me on that day, and not only me but also all who have loved His appearing.

He who testifies to this says, "Yes, I am coming soon!" Amen! Come, Lord Jesus!
