He turned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes, condemned them with an overthrow, and made them an example to those who are ungodly.

They prepared to retire for the night when suddenly all the men of Sodom, young and old, came from all over the city and surrounded the house. They shouted to Lot: Where are the men who came to spend the night with you? Bring them out so we can have sex with them!

Then Judah said to Er's brother Onan: Go sleep with your brother's widow. Fulfill your obligation to her as her husband's brother. That way your brother may have descendants. Is it not enough that you brought us out of a land flowing with milk and honey only to kill us in the desert? Do you also have to order us around? They will offer all two hundred and fifty incense burners to Jehovah. Then you and Aaron offer your incense burners. So each man took his incense burner. He put burning coals and incense in it and stood with Moses and Aaron at the entrance to the tent of meeting. Korah assembled all his followers who opposed Moses and Aaron at the entrance to the tent of meeting. The glory of Jehovah appeared to the entire group. Jehovah said to Moses and Aaron: Move away from these men. I will destroy them instantly. Immediately, they bowed with their faces touching the ground and said: O God, you are the God who gives the breath of life to everyone! If one man sins, will you be angry with the entire congregation? Then Jehovah said to Moses: Tell the congregation: 'Move away from the tents of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram.' Do not touch anything that belongs to them, or you'll be swept away because of all their sins. So they moved away from the tents of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram. Dathan and Abiram came out and were standing at the entrances to their tents with their wives and children. Moses said: This is how you will know that Jehovah sent me to do all these things and that it wasn't my idea: If these men die a natural death like all other people Jehovah has not sent me. But if Jehovah does something totally new, if the ground opens up, swallows them and everything that belongs to them, and they go down alive to their graves; then you will know that these men have treated Jehovah with contempt. When he finished speaking, the ground under them split, and the earth opened up to swallow them, their families, the followers of Korah, and all their property. They went down alive to their graves with everything that belonged to them. The ground covered them. They disappeared from the assembly. All the Israelites around them ran away when they heard their screams. They thought the ground would swallow them, also. Fire came from Jehovah and consumed the two hundred and fifty men who were offering incense.

The sons of Eli were corrupt. They did not know Jehovah.

In the thirty-eighth year that Asa was king of Judah, Ahab, the son of Omri, became king over Israel. Ahab was king in Samaria for twenty-two years. For Herod captured John and locked him in prison for the sake of Herodias his wife. She was his brother Philip's wife before he married her. John said to Herod: It is not lawful for you to have your brother's wife. Herodias had a grudge against John and was determined to have him killed.read more.
But Herod feared John. He knew he was a righteous and holy man so he kept him safe. That is why he listened to John but was perplexed. It was Herod's birthday. He invited his lords, the military commanders, and the prominent men of Galilee to supper. He pledged to her, Whatever you ask of me, I will give it to you, up to half of my kingdom. She asked her mother, What should I ask? And the mother said: The head of John the Baptist. At once she went to the king and asked: Will you give me the head of John the Baptist on a platter. The king was very sorry. Even so he kept his promise to her. He did not turn her down. This also showed his dinner guests he was a man of his word. He immediately commanded his guard to behead John the Baptist and bring his head to him. He brought his head on a platter and gave it to the young lady. In turn she gave it to her mother.

A certain man called Simon was in the same city. He used sorcery, and bewitched the people of Samaria, telling everyone that he was great. When they believed what Philip preached about the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women. Simon also believed. When he was baptized he continued with Philip, amazed by the miracles and signs he saw. When the apostles at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent Peter and John to them. Peter and John prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Spirit. They were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus but had not yet received the Spirit. So they laid their hands on them and they received the Holy Spirit. When Simon saw the Holy Spirit was given through the laying on of the apostles' hands, he offered them money. Simon said: Give me this power that on whomever I lay hands, he may receive the Holy Spirit. Peter said to him: Your money will perish with you, because you think that the gift of God may be purchased with money. You have no part or share in this matter for your heart is not right in the sight of God. Repent of this wickedness, and pray to God, that the thought in your heart may be forgiven you. For I perceive that you are full of bitterness, and in the bond of iniquity.

According to the same word, the heavens that now are, and the earth, are reserved for fire, being kept for the Day of Judgment and destruction of ungodly men.

He did not spare the ancient world, but preserved Noah, a preacher of righteousness, with seven others, when he brought a flood upon the world of the ungodly!

Certain men crept in unnoticed. They were appointed long ago for this condemnation. These ungodly men turned the grace of our God into loose conduct. They deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.
