The foundationstones of the wall of the city were adorned with all manner of precious stones: the first foundationstone was jasper; the second, sapphire; the third, chalcedony; the fourth, emerald; the fifth, sardonyx; the sixth, sardius; the seventh, chrysolite; the eighth, beryl; the ninth, topaz; the tenth, chrysoprasus; the eleventh, hyacinth; the twelfth, amethyst. And the twelve gates were twelve pearls; every several gate was of one pearl. And the street of the city was pure gold, like transparent glass.

For other foundation can no one lay than that which is laid, which is Christ Jesus. But if any one build upon this foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble, the work of every one will be made manifest; for the day will show it; because it is revealed in fire; and the fire itself will prove what every ones work is.
