Ye know the word that came throughout all Judaea, after the immersion which John preached; even Jesus of Nazareth, how God anointed Him with the Holy Spirit and with power; Who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed by the Devil; because God was with Him.

What, then? Are we better than they? Not at all; for we before charged that both Jews and Greeks are all under sin; as it has been written, "There is none righteous, no not one; there is none that understands; there is none that seeks after God;read more.
they have all turned aside, they together became unprofitable; there is none that does good, there is not so much as one; their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips; whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness; their feet are swift to shed blood; destruction and misery are in their ways; and the ways of peace have they not known; there is no fear of God before their eyes."

Did, then, that which is good become death to me? It could not be! But sin, that it might be shown to be sin, by working death to me through that which is good; that sin, through the commandment, might become exceedingly sinful. For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am carnal, sold under sin. For what I accomplish, I know not; for not what I wish, this do I practice; but what I hate, this I do.read more.
But, if what I wish not, this I do, I consent to the law that it is good. And now no longer do I accomplish it, but the sin which dwells in me. For I know that there dwells not in me, that is, in my flesh, any good; for to wish is present with me: but to do that which is good a not. For the good that I wish, I do not; but the evil which I wish not, this I practice. But, if what I wish not, this I do, it is no more I that perform it, but the sin that is dwelling in me. Consequently, I find the law, that, when I wish to do good, evil is present. or I delight in the law of God after the inward man; but I see a different law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.

And, in doing what is noble, let us not grow weary; for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. So, then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all men, but especially to those of the household of the faith.

"Ye heard that it was said, 'An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth,' but I say to you, Resist not the evil man; but whosoever smites you on your right cheek, turn to him the other also; and to him who is desirous that you should be sued at the law, and to take your coat, grant your cloak also;read more.
and whosoever shall impress you to go one mile, go with him two. Give to him asking you; and from him who wishes to borrow of you turn not away. "Ye heard that it was said, 'You shall love your neighbor, and hate your enemy;' but I say to you, Love your enemies; and pray for those who persecute you; that ye may be sons of your Father Who is in Heaven; because He causeth His sun to rise on evil men and on good, and sendeth rain on the righteous and on the unrighteous. For, if ye love those who love you, what reward have ye? do not even the tax-collectors the same? And, if ye salute your brethren only, what more than others do ye? Do not even the gentiles the same? Ye, therefore, shall be perfect, as your Heavenly Father is perfect."

"But I say to you who hear, love your enemies; do good to those who hate you; bless those who curse you; pray for those who revile you. "To him who smites you on the cheek, offer also the other; and from him who takes away your cloak, withhold not your coat also.read more.
"Give to every one who asks of you; and of him who takes away your goods, ask them not back. "And as ye wish that men should do to you, do ye also to them in like manner. "And, if ye love those who love you, what charm have you? for even the sinners love those who love them. "And, if ye do good to those who do good to you, what charm have you? even the sinners do the same. "And, if ye lend to those from whom ye hope to receive, what charm have you? even the sinners lend to sinners, that they may receive back as much. "But love your enemies; and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and ye will be sons of the Most High; because He is kind to the unthankful and evil. "Be ye merciful, even as your Father is merciful.

And, finally, be ye all of one mind, compassionate, loving as brethren, tender-hearted, humble-minded; not returning evil for evil, or reviling for reviling; but, on the contrary, blessing; because to this end ye were called, that ye might inherit a blessing. For, "He who wishes to love life, and to see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking guile;read more.
and let him turn away from evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and pursue it; because the eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous, and His ears are toward their supplication; but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil." And who is he that will harm you, if ye become zealous for that which is good?

Wherefore, let those also who suffer according to the will of God commit their souls in well-doing to a Faithful Creator.

But, of well-doing, and contributing, be not forgetful; for with such sacrifices God is well-pleased.

For what glory is it, if, when sinning and being beaten, ye endure it? but, if, when doing well and suffering for it, ye endure it, this is acceptable with God.

For it is better, if the will of God should will it, that ye suffer for well-doing, than for evil-doing;

Marvel not at this; because there is an hour coming, in which all who are in their tombs shall hear His voice, and come forth; those who did good, to the resurrection of life; but those who practiced evil, to the resurrection of judgment.

"But love your enemies; and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and ye will be sons of the Most High; because He is kind to the unthankful and evil.

but, after your hardness and impenitent heart, you are treasuring up for yourself wrath in the day of wrath and of the revelation of the righteous judgment of God, Who will render to every man according to his works; to those who, by patience in well-doing, are seeking for glory and honor and incorruption, eternal life;read more.
but to those who are contentious, and obey not the truth, but obey unrighteousness, there shall be wrath and indignation, tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that works evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Greek; but glory and honor and peace to every one who works good, to the Jew first, and also to the Greek: for there is no respect of persons with God;

Charge those who are rich in this present age, not to be high-minded, nor to have their hope set on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, Who giveth us richly all things for enjoyment; that they do good, that they be rich in good works, free to impart, liberal; treasuring up for themselves a good foundation for the future, that they may lay hold on that which is really life.

But, in a great house, there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some, indeed, unto honor and some unto dishonor. If, therefore, one fully purify himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honor, sanctified, serviceable to the Master, prepared for every good work.

What profit is it, my brethren, if anyone says he has faith, but has not works; can such faith save him? If a brother or a sister be naked, and in want of daily food, and one of you say to them, "Go in peace, be warmed and filled," but ye give them not the things needful for the body, what does it profit?read more.
Even so faith, if it have not works, is dead in itself. But some one will say, "You have faith, and I have works": show me your faith apart from your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. You believe that God is one. You do well. The demons also believe, and shudder! But are you willing to know, O vain man, that faith apart from works is worthless? Was not Abraham, our father, justified by works, when he offered up Isaac his son on the altar?

Who is wise and intelligent among you? Let him show, by his good conduct, his works in meekness of wisdom.

For, "He who wishes to love life, and to see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking guile; and let him turn away from evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and pursue it; because the eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous, and His ears are toward their supplication; but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil."

And God is able to make all grace abound to you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in every thing, may abound to every good work:

Now there was in Joppa a certain disciple, Tabitha by name, (which being translated means Dorcas): this woman was full of good works and alms which she was accustomed to do.

So then, my beloved, as ye always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; for it is God Who is working in you both to will and to work for His good pleasure.

to walk worthily of the Lord to all pleasing, bearing fruit in every good work, and growing in the knowledge of God; strengthened with all power, according to the might of His glory, unto all patience and long-suffering with joy; giving thanks to the Father, Who made us meet for the portion of the inheritance of the saints in light;

for we are His workmanship, having been created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God before prepared, that we should walk in them.

Every Scripture inspired of God is also profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness; that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly furnished for every good work.

Submit yourself to every human ordinance, for the Lord's sake; whether to a king as supreme; or to governors, as sent through him for the punishment of evil-doers, and for praise to those who do well; for so is the will of God, that by well-doing ye should put to silence the ignorance of foolish men;

And, having passed on thence, He came into their synagogue. And, behold, a man having a withered hand; and they questioned Him, saying, "Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath?" that they might accuse Him. And He said to them "What man of you who shall have one sheep; and, if this should fall into a pit on the sabbath, will not lay hold of it, and raise it up?read more.
How much better, therefore, is a man than a sheep! Therefore, it is lawful to do well on the sabbath." Then saith He to the man, "Stretch forth your hand." And he stretched it forth; and it was restored whole as the other. But the Pharisees, having gone out, held a consultation against Him, that they might destroy Him.

And He entered again into the synagogue; and there was a man there, having his hand withered. And they were watching Him, whether He would heal him on the sabbath; that they might accuse Him. And He saith to the man having the withered hand, "Arise in the midst."read more.
And He saith to them, "Is it lawful on the sabbath to do good, or to do harm, to save a life, or to kill?" But they were silent. And having looked round about on them with anger, and being grieved at the hardness of their heart, He saith to the man, "Stretch forth your hand." And he stretched it forth; and his hand was restored. And the Pharisees, having gone out, were straightway taking counsel with the Herodians against Him, how they might destroy Him.

And it came to pass on another sabbath, that He entered into the synagogue, and taught. And there was a man there, and his right hand was withered. And the scribes and Pharisees were watching Him, whether He would heal on the sabbath: that they might find how to accuse Him. But He knew their thoughts; and He said to the man having the withered hand, "Arise, and stand forth in the midst." And, rising up, he stood.read more.
And Jesus said to them, "I ask you, is it lawful on the sabbath to do good, or to do evil??o save a soul, or to destroy it?" And, looking round upon them all, He said to him, "Stretch forth your hand." And he did so, and his hand was restored. But they were filled with madness, and were conferring one with another as to what they should do to Jesus.

And He was teaching in one of the synagogues on the sabbath. And, behold, a woman who had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bowed together, and wholly unable to raise herself up. And Jesus, seeing her, called and said to her, "Woman, you have been loosed from your infirmity."read more.
And He laid His hands on her, and immediately she was made straight, and was glorifying God. But the synagogue-ruler, answering, (being much displeased that Jesus healed her on the sabbath), said to the multitude, "There are six days in which it behooves us to work; in these, therefore, coming, be healed, and not on the sabbath day." And the Lord answered him, and said, "Hypocrites! does not each one of you, on the sabbath, loose his ox or his ass from the stall; and, leading it away, water it? And was it not right that this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan bound, lo, eighteen years, should have been loosed from this bond on the day of the sabbath?" And, when He said these things, all those opposing Him were being put to shame, and all the multitude were rejoicing because of all the glorious things which were being done by Him.

And, passing along, he saw a man blind from his birth. And His disciples asked Him, saying, "Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?" Jesus answered, "Neither did this man sin, nor his parents; but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.read more.
We must work the works of Him Who sent Me, while it is day. Night is coming, when no one can work. When I am in the world, I am the Light of the world." Having thus spoken, He spit on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and anointed his eyes with the clay, and said to him, "Go, wash in the pool of Siloam" (which is interpreted, Sent). He went, therefore, and washed, and came seeing. The neighbors, therefore, and those formerly beholding him, that he was a beggar, said, "Is not this he that sits and begs?" Some said, "This is he;" others said, "No, but he is like him;" he said, "I am he." They said, therefore, to him, "How then were your eyes opened?" He answered, "The Man Who is called Jesus made clay, and anointed my eyes, and said to me, 'Go to Siloam, and wash;' having gone, therefore, and washed, I received sight." And they said to him, "Where is He?" He says, I know not." They bring to the Pharisees him who was once blind. And it was a sabbath on the day when Jesus made the clay, and anointed his eyes. Again, therefore, the Pharisees also asked him, how he received sight. And he said to them, "He put clay upon my eyes, and I washed, and see." Some of the Pharisees, therefore, said, "This Man is not from God, because He does not keep the sabbath." Others said, "How can a man who is a sinner do such signs?" And there was a division among them. They say, therefore, to the blind man again, "What do you say about Him, seeing that He opened your eyes?" And he said, "He is a Prophet." The Jews, therefore, did not believe concerning him, that he was blind, and received sight, until they called the parents of him who received sight, and asked them, "Is this your son, who ye say, was born blind? How, then, does he now see?" His parents, therefore, answered and said, "We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind; but how he now sees, we do not know. Ask him; he is of age; he will speak for himself." These things said his parents, because they were fearing the Jews; for the Jews had agreed already, that, if any one should confess Him to be Christ, he should be put out of the synagogue. On this account, his parents said, "He is of age; ask him." Therefore, they called a second time the man who was blind, and said to him, "Give glory to God: we know that this Man is a sinner." He, therefore, answered, "Whether He is a sinner, I know not: one thing I know, that, though I was blind, now I see." They said, therefore, to him, "What did He do to you? how did He open your eyes?" He answered them, "I told you already, and ye did not hear; why do ye wish to hear it again? Do ye also wish to become His disciples?" And they reviled him, and said, "You are His disciple; but we are disciples of Moses. We know that God hath spoken to Moses; but, as to this Man, we know not whence He is." The man answered and said to them, "Why, in this is the wonder, that ye do not know whence He is, and He opened my eyes. We know that God heareth not sinners; but, if any one is a worshiper of God, and does His will, him He heareth. From remotest antiquity, it was never heard that any one opened the eyes of one born blind! If this Man were not from God, He could do nothing." They answered and said to him, You were altogether born in sins, and do you teach us!" And they cast him out. Jesus heard that they cast him out; and, finding him, He said, "Do you believe on the Son of God?" And He answered, and said, "And Who is He, Lord, that I may believe on Him?" Jesus said to him, "You have both seen Him, and it is He Who is talking with you." And he said, "Lord, I believe." And he worshiped Him. And Jesus said, "For judgment came I into the world; that those who see not may see, and that those who see may become blind." Those of the Pharisees who were with Him heard these things, and said to Him, "Are we also blind?" Jesus said to them, "If ye were blind, ye would have no sin; but now ye say, 'We see,' your sin abides."
