not because we have not the right, but to make ourselves and ensample unto you, that ye should imitate us. For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, If any will not work, neither let him eat. For we hear of some that walk among you disorderly, that work not at all, but are busybodies. Now them that are such we command and exhort in the Lord Jesus Christ, that with quietness they work, and eat their own bread. But ye, brethren, be not weary in well-doing. And if any man obeyeth not our word by this epistle, note that man, that ye have no company with him, to the end that he may be ashamed. And yet count him not as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother.
And withal they learn also to be idle, going about from house to house; and not only idle, but tattlers also and busybodies, speaking things which they ought not.
One of themselves, a prophet of their own, said, Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, idle gluttons.
And we desire that each one of you may show the same diligence unto the fulness of hope even to the end: that ye be not sluggish, but imitators of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.
Go to the ant, thou sluggard; Consider her ways, and be wise: Which having no chief, Overseer, or ruler, Provideth her bread in the summer, And gathereth her food in the harvest.
She looketh well to the ways of her household, And eateth not the bread of idleness.

The hand of the diligent shall bear rule; But the slothful shall be put under taskwork.
The soul of the sluggard desireth, and hath nothing; But the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.
The way of the sluggard is as a hedge of thorns; But the path of the upright is made a highway.
Slothfulness casteth into a deep sleep; And the idle soul shall suffer hunger.
