Wherefore I also said, I will not drive them out from before you; but they shall be as thorns in your sides, and their gods shall be a snare unto you.

As vinegar to the teeth, and as smoke to the eyes, So is the sluggard to them that send him.

He that giveth heed unto the word shall find good; And whoso trusteth in Jehovah, happy is he.

A foolish son is the calamity of his father; And the contentions of a wife are a continual dropping.

doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not its own, is not provoked, taketh not account of evil;

And with whom was he displeased forty years? was it not with them that sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness?

saying, There was in a city a judge, who feared not God, and regarded not man: and there was a widow in that city; and she came oft unto him, saying, Avenge me of mine adversary. And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man;read more.
yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest she wear me out by her continual coming.

And it came to pass, when she pressed him daily with her words, and urged him, that his soul was vexed unto death.

O my soul, come not thou into their council; Unto their assembly, my glory, be not thou united; For in their anger they slew a man, And in their self-will they hocked an ox.
