And when He had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain for the Word of God, and for the testimony which they held.

But all who heard him were amazed and said, Is this not he who destroyed those who called on this name in Jerusalem and came here for that reason, that he might bring them bound to the chief priests?

And when the blood of Your martyr Stephen was poured out, I also was standing by and consenting to his death, and holding the garments of those who killed him.

which I also did in Jerusalem. And I shut up many of the saints in prisons, having received authority from the chief priests. And they being put to death, I cast a vote.

And the vinedressers took his servants, and beat one, and killed another, and stoned another.

And again he sent another. And they killed him, and many others, beating some and killing some.

And white robes were given to each one of them. And it was said to them that they should rest yet for a little time, until both their fellow servants and their brothers (those about to be killed as they were) should have their number made complete.

since they have poured out the blood of the saints and prophets; and You gave them blood to drink, for they were deserving.

And he sent and beheaded John in the prison.

And immediately the king sent an executioner and commanded his head to be brought. And he went and beheaded him in the prison,

And Herod said, John I have beheaded, but who is this of whom I hear such things? And he desired to see Him.

And throwing him outside the city, they stoned him. And the witnesses laid their clothes down at the feet of a young man named Saul. And they stoned Stephen, who was calling on God and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit. And kneeling down, he cried with a loud voice, Lord, do not lay this sin to their charge. And when he had said this, he fell asleep.

I persecuted this Way as far as death, binding and delivering both men and women into prisons;

And he killed James the brother of John with the sword.

He spoke this signifying by what death he should glorify God. And when He had spoken this, He said to him, Follow Me.
