And a certain beggar named Lazarus was laid at his gate, full of sores, longing to be fed with what fell from the rich man's table. Moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. So the beggar died, and was carried by the angels to Abraham's bosom. The rich man also died and was buried.

When he had said this, he cried with a loud voice, "Lazarus, come out!" The dead man came out, his hands and feet bound with grave clothes, and his face wrapped with a cloth. Jesus said to them, "Unbind him, and let him go."

Now a certain man was sick, Lazarus of Bethany, the village of Mary and her sister Martha.

There they made him a supper; and Martha served, while Lazarus was one of those who sat at the table with him.

So then Jesus told them plainly, "Lazarus is dead;

When he had said this, he cried with a loud voice, "Lazarus, come out!"

So the chief priests planned to put Lazarus also to death,

Then Jesus, deeply moved again, came to the tomb. It was a cave, and a stone lay against it. Jesus said, "Take away the stone." Martha, the sister of the dead man, said to him, "Lord, by this time there is a bad odor, for he has been dead four days." So they took away the stone. And Jesus lifted up his eyes and said, "Father, I thank you that you have heard me. I knew that you always hear me, but I said this for the benefit of the people standing by, that they may believe that you sent me." When he had said this, he cried with a loud voice, "Lazarus, come out!" The dead man came out, his hands and feet bound with grave clothes, and his face wrapped with a cloth. Jesus said to them, "Unbind him, and let him go."

The crowd that had been with him when he called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead bore witness. For this reason the people went to meet him, because they heard that he had done this sign.

So the chief priests planned to put Lazarus also to death, because on account of him many of the Jews were going away and believing in Jesus.

Now a great crowd of the Jews learned that he was there, and they came, not only on account of Jesus but also to see Lazarus, whom he had raised from the dead.

Then, six days before the Passover, Jesus came to Bethany where Lazarus was, whom Jesus had raised from the dead. There they made him a supper; and Martha served, while Lazarus was one of those who sat at the table with him.

When Jesus heard it, he said, "This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, so that the Son of God may be glorified through it." Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus. So, when he heard that he was sick, he stayed two more days in the place where he was. Then after this he said to the disciples, "Let us go to Judea again." The disciples said to him, "Rabbi, the Jews were just now seeking to stone you, and are you going there again?" Jesus answered, "Are there not twelve hours in the day? If anyone walks in the day, he does not stumble, because he sees the light of this world. But if one walks in the night, he stumbles, because the light is not in him." These things he said, and after that he said to them, "Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep, but I go to wake him up." His disciples said, "Lord, if he sleeps, he will recover." Now Jesus had spoken of his death, but they thought that he meant taking rest in sleep. So then Jesus told them plainly, "Lazarus is dead;
