The wife is bound by the law as long as her husband liveth: but if her husband be dead, she is free to be married to whomsoever she will, but only in the Lord.
Be not unequally yoked with infidels; for what participation hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what fellowship [is there] between light and darkness?
But to the others I speak, not the Lord, If any brother hath a wife unbelieving, yet she chuseth to dwell with him, let him not put her away. For the woman who is subject to a husband, is bound by the law to that husband during his life; but if the husband be dead, she is discharged from that husband. She shall therefore certainly be counted an adulteress, if, her husband being alive, she be for another man: but if her husband is dead, she is free from the law; so that she shall be no adulteress, though married to another husband.
I say then to the unmarried and the widows, that it is becoming them if they abide as I am. But if they have not the gift of continence, let them marry: for it is better to marry than to burn.
I would therefore have the younger widows to marry, bear children, govern their house, give no occasion to the adversary to bring a reproach on them.
Every one who putteth away his wife and marrieth another, committeth adultery: and every one who marrieth a woman divorced from her husband, committeth adultery.
And I tell you, that whosoever shall put away his wife, except for whoredom, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and he that marrieth the divorced woman, committeth adultery.
And he said unto them, Whosoever shall put away his wife, and marry another, committeth adultery against her: and if a wife put away her husband, and marrieth another, she committeth adultery.
But to the married not I command, but the Lord, That the wife be not separated from the husband: and even if she should be separated, let her remain unmarried, or be reconciled to her husband: and let not the husband put away his wife.
But I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except on account of whoredom, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is put away, committeth adultery.
