And while he was at Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, as he sat at table, a woman came with an alabaster flask of ointment of pure nard, very costly. And she broke the flask and poured it over his head.
And behold, a woman of the city, who was a sinner, when she learned that Jesus was reclining at the table in the Pharisee's house, brought an alabaster flask of perfume,
You did not anoint my head with oil, but she has anointed my feet with perfume.
For in pouring this perfume on my body, she did it to prepare me for burial.
Now when the Sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices, so that they might go and anoint him.
But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they came to the tomb, bringing the spices which they had prepared.
And Nicodemus, who had at first come to Jesus by night, also came, bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about a hundred pounds. So they took the body of Jesus, and bound it in strips of linen with the spices, as is the burial custom of the Jews.
But when the disciples saw it, they were indignant, saying, "Why this waste? For this perfume might have been sold for a high price and given to the poor."
But there were some who said to themselves indignantly, "Why was this ointment wasted? For it might have been sold for more than three hundred denarii and given to the poor." And they criticized her sharply.
"Why was this perfume not sold for three hundred denarii and given to the poor?"
He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine; then he set him on his own beast and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.
