Now observe how great this man was to whom Abraham, the patriarch, gave a tenth of the choicest spoils.

For this reason Moses has given you circumcision (not because it is from Moses, but from the fathers), and on the Sabbath you circumcise a man.

And He gave him the covenant of circumcision; and so Abraham became the father of Isaac, and circumcised him on the eighth day; and Isaac became the father of Jacob, and Jacob of the twelve patriarchs. “The patriarchs became jealous of Joseph and sold him into Egypt. Yet God was with him,

whose are the fathers, and from whom is the Christ according to the flesh, who is over all, God blessed forever. Amen.

From the standpoint of the gospel they are enemies for your sake, but from the standpoint of God’s choice they are beloved for the sake of the fathers;

For I say that Christ has become a servant to the circumcision on behalf of the truth of God to confirm the promises given to the fathers,

“Brethren, I may confidently say to you regarding the patriarch David that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day.
