So the waters were healed unto this day, according to the word which Elisha spoke.
And one went out into the field to gather herbs and found a wild vine and gathered his lap full of wild grapes and came and shred them into the pot of pottage, for they knew them not. So they poured out for the men to eat. And it came to pass, as they were eating of that pottage, that they cried out and said, O thou man of God, there is death in the pot. And they could not eat it.
They have spoken words, swearing falsely in making a covenant: thus judgment shall spring up as hemlock in the furrows of the field.
And the LORD sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and many people of Israel died.
They shall be consumed with hunger and devoured with burning heat and with bitter destruction; I will also send the teeth of beasts upon them, with the poison of serpents of the dust.
For the arrows of the Almighty are within me; my spirit drinks of the poison; and terrors of God combat me.
Upon what shall we secure ourselves? Assemble yourselves, and let us enter into the defenced cities, and let us be silent there: for the LORD our God has put us to silence and given us water of gall to drink because we have sinned against the LORD.
Therefore thus hath the LORD of the hosts the God of Israel said: Behold, I will feed them, even this people, with wormwood and give them water of gall to drink.
Therefore, thus hath the LORD of the hosts said against those prophets: Behold, I will cause them to eat wormwood and make them drink the waters of gall, for from the prophets of Jerusalem is hypocrisy gone forth upon all the land.

Deliver me, O LORD, from the evil man; preserve me from the man of violence. Who devise evil in their heart; they are continually gathered together for war. They have sharpened their tongue like a serpent; adders' poison is under their lips. Selah.
but no man can tame the tongue, which is an evil that cannot be restrained and is full of deadly poison.
And to them it was given that they should not kill them, but that they should torment them five months; and their torment was as the torment of a scorpion when he strikes a man.
